Computer is shot. Shop told me it couldn't be fixed. No spark at plugs. Spark at coil.
Soooo, I think my only option is to covert to the older style electronic ignition.
Anyone done this? Thoughts?
If the coil is firing, the ecm is doing its job. If the spark isn't getting to the plugs, the ECM has nothing to do with that. It fires the coil. That's it.
It's not at a shop. I followed the trouble shooting sequence in the FSM.
Then sent the ECM to a company in FL. I got an email from them yesterday
saying the ECM can't be repaired.
The FSM says the ECM is/was bad.
I'm now trying to find a way to get the truck running.
I was told swapping to the old style ignition was the way to go.
nothing really changed that much. TBI is TBI. it wouldn't surprise me if a 318 or 239 computer would work since at the end of the day it is just 2 injectors firing fuel into the engine and the o2 sensor correcting as needed once warm enough.
