Default 1993 Dodge D150 wire harness under hood cooked

Hi there,

went to go look at the truck today. Owner says one day at a stop light there was a puff of smoke. truck stopped in the road. Got it towed home. Sat at home for couple years.
Upon inspection it appears only a few wires are melted.

My questions is this.

What is the simplest way to get this thing fired up? Can i run a positive from the battery to the external coil? or will i have to change out the entire harness? Id really like to get this thing started up before i buy it.

Thanks
Rick

It depends on what wires got fried and what was the cause. You may replace the wires only for it to happen again.

running positive to the coil will do absolutely nothing. that still won't power the computer or anything else required to run

sry ull have to bear with my lack of knowledge of these trucks. im still learning. on a scale of 1-10 how hard is this job?

also i saw a bunch of exposed wire and corrosion on some copper exposed i was thinking this could be the reason it burned up.

would it be too difficult to just get some correct guage wires and just replace each burned and corroded wire one by one. with a wire diagram to lean on?

i think it depends on how you are with wiring. i would say it likely isn't for a beginner.

while i have never worked with wires in a vehicle I used to build custom gaming computers. I guess the hunt will just continue for a truck. thanks.

if i just happened to find a junk yard with the same truck and it had most of the wires that were not burned it would be an easy fix no?

Again it depends on what got burnt and where the wires go to. IF it just was the engine bay harness yes that would be fairly easy to do. But it if it goes back into the cab or elsewhere is another story.

It also depends a lot on WHY the wires burned..... if it was just a shorted wire, then replacing the harness should solve it. However, if something ELSE caused the wiring to burn, replacing the harness won't fix it, and will only burn the next harness as well....

finding a wiring harness would likely be next to impossible since they only made them with that engine for 2 years. tracking down a 92/93 harness in good shape would be very hard. no cheap or easy way to fix it.
