Default 83 W150 - Removing bed... how?

Hey guys! Just picked up an 83 W150 longbed and I need to pull the whole thing apart to start the restore. Step one is the bed.

I haven't looked under there yet... but it's crusty 😅

Never did this before... walkthroughs? Tips? Tricks? Anything helps!

haha I did figure that much. How many bolts / where are they? All obvious? Then just tail lights and the gas filler right?

Probably 8 bolts, and the rear wiring harness, and yes, the filler neck for the gas tank.

Eventually going to have to crawl under and look. May as well start now.

It’s all pretty obvious.

Undo the gas filler neck and tail light wiring. I don't remember when the bolts were moved, but if you have smooth topped bolts in the bed, there will be 4 to 6 of them. Undo those and you can lift the bed off. Sometime in the 1980's is when that changed. Before that, they were underneath. Don't be surprised if they break or you have to cut them.

I've been known to make a frame to go under the bed rails with an attachment in the center. Then I use an engine hoist at full extension to lift it. Then drive the truck out from under.

Thanks. It's so rusty under there everything kinda blends together so an idea of how many or where I'm looking helps!

I don't see any bolt heads in the bed at all, must be all underneath.

There will be brackets underneath that the bolts go into. Be ready to cut some bolt heads off. There should be 4 or 6 of them.
