When I did the gov solenoid swap at my son's houes, and when I modded the VB, I drained and reused the fluid as it was good. Strained through automotive paint strainer just to be sure....

Well gents the deed has been done! Install went pretty easy.

Zman, here's the pic you asked for:

Sadly, the block and the solenoid looked to be in good shape, no apparent cloges, screen looks clear.

A tad more debris on the magnet than normal but still nothing to be alarmed about, I don't think anyway...

Refilled with 7qts of fluid. Took on a short test drive, seems ok, a more appropriate test drive will tell the tale...

I'm thinking that adjustment screw is in too far and the bands are simply worn or the TC clutches are shot(hence the sludge)and have seen better days. Maybe you'll get a little more out of the tranny from the stuff you've done, but I wouldn't take any long trips. Take a pic of the front one. Hopefully it doesn't look like this one. I hate to say this, but your tranny is not going to last much longer. Start saving money.
