Well I think I've decided to get the single in single out with a flowmaster to come out in front of the rear wheel.

if you go dual out, i wouldn't go any bigger than 2.25". 2.5" is probably pushing it. If you go any bigger than that, you will lose low end. Changing pipe size effects exhaust pulse timing.
Best set up i think is single in, single out. And stick with the stock size pipe.
Allthough, some people are willing to sacrafice a little hit on the low end for the look of dual exhaust.

How do you think it would sound or how much a of a difference would there be if I did the single in and single out with a flowmaster vs a single in single out with the cat removed and a flowmaster?

I think single in/single out with a flowmaster would sound pretty good. It wouldn't be too loud, but it would havea nice rumble to it. Just kinda depends on what you are looking for.

It is usually not adviseable to remove the cat. converter. The engine itself is tuned to accept a certain amount of back pressure. There would not be a significant increase of horse power unless it is a turbo charged engine. I would suggest a freeflowing cat. Not to mention, in some states it is illegal to remove the cat.

I have a single in with single out Flowmaster 40 and it sounds nice. Mine is cut off after the rear end though. You wont be able to tell a difference between a single or dual. When I got the truck I wanted to get a y-pipe at the cat and have 2 single mufflers. My exhaust guy said it would be quieter than single in and single out, and there would be no real performance gain.

Yeah....he is correct on that. Initally there would be no gain. Where did you have yours dumped? At the axle? Did you stay with the stock pipe size? Did you notice any difference in power on the lower or upper RPM?

Mine is dumped right after the rear axle. I believe it is stock pipe size maybe a little bigger. It has great torque starting at about 1000rpm or 1500rpm you can feel it pulling till it shifts gear, then it continues pulling. This is probably the cheapest and most effecient way to get exhaust on your truck.
