yea, a header leak will causea loss of power. You can get the 3.9 up to respectable power with a few simple mods. an F&B throttle body and harland sharp 1.7 rockers have shown a 30 horsepower gain at the wheels. I imagine a stage one intake from hughes would probably throw an extra 10 or 15 at the wheels along with a better TB and roller rockers. Since the 42 RE sucks up about 30 or 40 horsepower, most 3.9's put out about 130-140 at the wheels stock. With the right bolt ons, it is possible to get 200 rwhp, but its not cheap. Throw in a cam and a 3.9 could be pushing 240 horses at the wheels. A custom PCM flash from hughes wouldnt hurt either. My plan eventually is to get my 3.9 over 200 RWHP, put an Auburn limited slip diff in it and then call it quits. Thats a pretty respectable truck. It may even be able to run with stock R/T's.

Unless you mount rockets on the back of your truck almost nothing you do is going to make that 3.9L do much of anything to increase your power.....it is a dependable workhorse motor but a dog when it comes to real power.

There is a guy on another forum that i go on who has his 3.9 running mid 14's naturally aspirated. Last I checked, thats faster than stock R/T's. As far as stroker kits, I know there used to be one available that increased displacement to like a 4.3 liter. I dont know if it is still available or not. There is another guy on the same forum who got a motor out of a wrecked dakota that was stroked and had some other bolt ons, it dynoed at over 240 RWHP. Dont tell me a 3.9 cant make power, you just have to spend some money and know how to do it.

Oh pleeeeease......I should of said "If you are Smart".....you go right ahead and try and make afast truckout of your V6 I was just offering advice based on real world not thumb sucking on another forum, I have owned the V6, and I have been to the track and raced them, even a Turbocharged 3.9L is lucky to push 270HP at the crank....I can put the same amount of cash into my engine and blow your doors off....end of story.......HEHE

Well I don't think my tranny is too bad. It shifts really HARD. Shift kit helps a lot of acceleration, but there is a mod to add strength to the 42re which you can run a v8 in there. I talked to a guy who test drove with with 500+ hp, with the 42re because it's lighter, add a mod to it and it will handle the extra torque. A v6 can pull, but for the money of modding a v6 might as well buy a nice v8, now you drop a hemi in 6.1 or 5.7 you will be kicking ***.

mid 12's 3.9 naturally aspirated. lets see your truck beat that lil. And i know yours isnt the paxon blown one in that video, yours is the one with the flowmaster muffler and the cold air kit... just like everyone else. so dont go around thinking you're better than everyone else because you upgraded to a baby v-8.
