Get a 5.2 then, you can mod the $hit out of those...
Just don't down grade your self to a Yota. The Dakota is best in class in power, towing, looks, IMO and many others, and the 96 yota will rot like its been sitting in a big bucket of salt water. POS yotas and their unbelievable frame rust.

not really sure if i'll even get a new truck at all. it was more of me thinking it over when he said he was gunna sell it. but i've been looking around and can't really find one as cheap as ya'll are saying with a v8. i think i could talk him lower before any of the v8's with that low of mileage

- the 3.9 does poorly to begin with
- QC's are much heavier, more weight, less mpg
- a dodge auto is horrible at getting power to the rear wheels, weighs more, and obviously manuals do better with mpg
To tell you the truth I do better w/ my 4.7 5speed 4x4 then i did with my 3.9 auto 2wd... and by a good bit too.
You got a triple kill on the whole gas consumption thing there... sorry bud, but a good tune up can never hurt
And USM whats your budget? I paid 7k for my truck, and I now you could get one for around that or less especially depending on your area.
