you'll notice it more if you do lots of city driving like someone said when your cruising on the highway the clutch fan never comes on so its only there for low/city driving

Pretty neat little mod there, I like that.

So how do I know if I have an e-fan? I'd like to do this, but I don't want to do anything that could cause damage to my truck.

99 Sport, 3.9 w/ 180* therm (if this tells anyone anything)

just look. i think 2000+ years have them, not sure about the 99

Ok, I clearly do not have one. Would I run into any overheating issues if I remove the clutch fan? I know its a very broad question, but I want to make sure I don't run in to any major issues.

yes u would prolly overheat

and its the 4.7Ls that come with the efan stock

i personally wouldn't do it, but i think its safe if you do highway driving, if its city and hot outside then prob not.

You dont have to drain the cooling system..... Take off the top radiator hose you might loose maybe 1qt of coolant IF its filled all the way up (which im going to guess its not. Take the thermostat housing off and put the new one in i use RTV to seal it, and put it back on... you dont have to drain the system its a 10min job.

Yes it is worth it, The E fan is good but not good enough for stop and go driving or high heat idles, the 180 thermo will help out big time with this. I highly suggest you run a 180 if you remove the clutch fan. Otherwise you might find yourself purchasing some head gaskets.

You need some type of air moving in the front at idle.

4.7s are NOT the only ones that came with stock e-fans. Both my 2000 and 2001 have stock e fans on them and they are the 5.9.

ok thanks for clearing that up on the efan being stock ive never had my hands on any other than the 4.7 and the 5.2

for the tstat the haynes manual says to drain the system and the tstat aint on the top hose on the 4.7 its on the bottom hose
