Default ABS and brake light come on randomly

my truck started lighting up the ABS and brake light simultaneously every now and then. i think today was like the 3rd time it's happened since i bought it in june. nothing seems to change. both lights always come on and go off at the same time. my brake fluid level is fine, and the ebrake isn't engaged. an OBD check didn't turn anything up. any ideas?

my thought would be the abs wheel sensors, speed sensors. if you have 4 wheel antilock the front hubs each have a sensor. 2 wheel abs has a speed sensor in the rear diff. thats all i got for you.

Same problem on a '99 was a rear wheel speed sensor - can't remember the price but it wasn't bad - $40 or $50 maybe. Easy to install - on rear differential. Hope this helps.

I've had that problem and replaced the sensor in the top of my diff and it fixed for a while now occasionally they will stay on when started but if i shut the engine off and restart it they go off. What else can it be?

1999 dakota 318 2wd..I changed the rear wheel ABS sensor and change the rear diif gear lube, it gets loaded up full of metal "dust" (be sure to wipe off magnet in bottom of diff) and stick to the sensor screwing up the readings, Did it on my 99 and no probs since been over a 1 1/2 yr now
