Follow-up< ABS light, Brake light ON
Hi, Just trying to follow up with this. Some have offered some ideas, but I would like to see if someone had exact same problem? ABS light on, Brake light on dash both on. They seem to reset after each engine off period. Some vibration is felt in brake peddle when stopping on pavement. Feels like Antilock is kicking in for no reason. Most common anwer to problem is speed control on rear diff. but I do not have the speedo problem common to the suggested fix, but rather the vibration in the peddle when stopping. One person suggested having codes looked at, but will the truck code with the two lights out or does it need the engine light on? In other words, how do I know when the truck will store codes AND will it store codes from the brake system? I don't want to change the speedo sensor on the rear diff or begin changing any parts before I know or hear about an exact symptom as mine.
Your thoughts?
Thansks for your help.

The module is behind the glovebox, I think. I have read many posts and sometimes it is as simple as the connectors. I will clean the connectrors first to see if that helps. I might also try bleeding the brakes. I noticed the brakes fluid was a bit low, but not enough to allow air in the lines.
Thanks

My 2009 Dakota had both brake/ABS light on all times. Almost replaced sensor, but someone suggested that I check ABS fuze.... that did it, the fuze was blown. (#17 in fuze box)

Same lights are on , but when the truck shuts off, they reset. When driving and apply brakes, the brake peddle vibrates like ABS is kicking in and then both lights come on. The speedo works fine, so I didn't think it was the sensor on the diff.

The CAB will store codes in memory so they can be read later. The truck can also be driven with the DRB connected if you need to duplicate the condition. It just plugs in under the dash and is portable.

I just had that problem and it turned out to be the master cylinder...went from a $1,500 quote to me buying a cylinder for $60 and do it myself and has been fine sense. I also lost my pedal a few days after my lights came on and ran thru an intersection with no brakes...
01KotaQuad, did you have the peddle vibration intermittant prior to the total failure and did the lights reset when you turned it off?
00DakDan, where do I find a reputable CAB to pull codes? Does it have to go to the dealer?
Thanks,
John

well i felt the pedal go a little soft a couple times...and the next day i felt something, then the lights came on... and it got to where it would go to the floor and i would let off and pump it to get it to brake...then it just went completley to the floor gone....had to use the E-Brake to get home...if your gettting some vibration i would think to bleed the lines...even pay a shop the $40-$50 to power bleed it from the master cylinder...
