What does the trouble code P1899 refer to? We have a 46re that seems to shift ok, maybe a little soft, but we keep getting that code. The truck will also start in any gear instead of just park or neutral.

Have you try going to a lighter oil for the transmission? This would be a cheaper way to find out if there is a problem in the transmission or is it the lube thats in the trans. If you do have bent shifting rods or bad synchro's, yes the transmission would need to come out for repairs.

Pretty sure I have the same problem; 1-2; shifts; hesitates shifts hesitates then goes in.. but if you give it some gas it seems to go in faster.

Do you have to drop the trans or pan?
Is there anything you have to do after replacement?

Anything special needed to change them out?

Yes the pan needs to be removed to replace the governor solenoid and transducer.

Great! I'm sure there is a thread around here somewhere; I need to go look up; bc I need/want to know if its just an unbolt/hook or w/e and replace or if there is anything special needed to get the job done eg. special tool; anything special that needs to be done after replacement; or if its just a simple swap and your done kinda thing.

45rfe with tmr delete and sonnax. just under 140k miles on it.

1: using the collumn shifter to select gears manually, good idea or not?
2: driving around in 2nd gear ususally under 40mph in town, i get better throttle response, but does it put too much strain on the trans?

My thoughts exactly; I know i mentioned it in a post somewhere before; I know at least on my truck the way this truck shifts is aggravated some times; wants to shift through all the gears in favor of Fuel Economy; trying to accelerate maybe almost half open throttle and and it wants to shift; shift; shift.. and you have to drop into passing gear...

I notice it a lot more now being this Cat I have is really restricting the engine from being able to increase RPM in a timely fashion. It's a lot more noticeable. And the whole wants to shift into O-D at 45Mph.. even when accelerating.. ERRG.. LOL! Manually shifting is Ok.. but nothing like it was.

I have same problem sometimes gear wanting to float finding the gear 1-2 sometimes under light throttle; I'm going to replace the 2 items; then eventually swap back into a less restrictive Cat. Gonna go to a local shop I trust and let them have their way with my truck's exhaust system. that will increase the ability of the Engine to wrap out the RPM faster; providing quicker response and "More get up and go power"; maybe the Governor and the other part recommended will help out the shifting.. I'm still looking at the tuners to see if they can adjust the way in which the truck shifts.

But I'm not bitching.. Just saying.

governor solenoid and transducer.-

Even with this going bad or out; would O/D still work at 45mph?

Sometimes else I notice; is even before 45 before OD kicks in; i can turn OD off and you can feel the truck down shift; I guess that the truck has 4th gear and then just simply the clutch locks in at 45? Not really a separate gear right?
