cv axle removal?
i have an 02 4x4 with a bad cv axle on the drivers side. i have looked in the search section and have looked on youtube and cant seem to find the information i am needing. i have everything off except the inner "cup" for lack of a better word. i cant get it to slide off of or out of the differential. any ideas on how to remove this? apparently some bolt on and some slide on and mine slides on.

Have an 02 as well.. had to take it to shop..couldn't get it to pop off, when the seals(o-ring) cracks it lets moisture in and allows a lil bit of rust in.. At budget tire the guy used an impact wrench with a pickle fork attachment, He said it was hard as well.. I got one off couldn't get 2nd one, come to think of it; drivers side wouldn't come off either..If ya can get it up high enough a pickle fork with an extension bar, and alot of cussing..wish ya luck< haynes manual has a detailed removal procedure as well

This is where I was stuck yesterday. IMAG0108.jpg. I finished up this evening. I ended up using a 2.5 lb. hammer and a long ball joint separator. IMAG0109.jpg
i put the ends of the ball joint tool on the back side of the cup ( not between the cup and diff. housing ) and hit it about 3 times and it came off and landed on the floor. As you can see, there is alot of crud in there and the shaft looked the same.

I cleaned and greased the splines before putting the new shaft on and also put a new seal on. I ended up having to go to the Dodge dealer for the axle seal. I tried the chain parts stores ( AutoZone, Advance, etc...) and they did not carry it. Napa and Car Quest had to order it but it would be in next day. Just some fyi for the seal.
