2002 Dodge Dakota SXT 2WD V6
Hi! im an 18 year old kid fresh out of highschool and I bought a 2002 dodge dakota... I love the truck!
But as of the past 24 hours... my truck went to ****.
I was on my way to work... roughly 16 miles from home and It lost all power... I went from going 75MPH to 40MPH on a freeway, I immediatly got off and parked it... I called a tow truck and had them tow it back to my house. My father got home and I told him what happened and I called my brother (Mechanic at Desert BMW) and they immediatly said it was the fuel pump and 244$ later I spent about an hour and a half installing the pump and it started up and ran OKAY in the beginning. I then took it for a short drive and it bogged and lost all power again... when ever I accelerate it will bog and not accelerate I also hear air coming from somewhere. When I got back home my father seen that some exhaust line was orange... like it was smoking hot. there was a small amount of smoke coming from the engine... and he looked for a air leak and couldnt find anything.
ALSO! the check engline light doesnt come up.
Any dakota guru's please HELP!
Spec:

Im down to the last 200 bucks and I gotta take it to pep boys tomorrow for a diagnostic.

Well I never understood the whole turn on and of 3 times thing then again I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed (girlfriend just made me write that... whipped), but I have a scan tool so I would recommend taking it to an Autozone (if you're from the US) and getting them to scan it for you or if you have a friend with one use that.
Basically you just scan your car using the OBD2 port under the drive side dash and pull trouble codes.
To give you an example my truck currently throws P0301 and P0303 which means misfires in cylinders 1 and 3.
You can cheap out on the scan tools - I got an expensive one for christmas which actually gives you a detailed description of what each code means, or you can just go buy a $40 one and just pull the code and then go google what it means.
Good luck!

FYI,
With our year trucks, The fuel filter, regulator, checkvalve and any other thing tied to the fuel delivery systems is incorporated in the fuel pump - meaning if you have a new fuel pump, you have a new fuel regulator, filter etc.
Would he be throwing codes and yet no CEL? I thought codes meant an automatic CEL.
