Default Exhaust Question

I'm swapping out the V6 for a V8 and I've gotten to the point of making sure the dumb thing can be smogged so I need to know how many catalytic converters there are on the V8 model of a '97 Dakota Sport Extended Cab 4x4 and, additionally, how many O2 sensors there are also. By the way, I live in Southern California. Thank you for any information.

you should have 2 pre cats, one off of each manifold and then 1 main cat. one 02 sensor per pre cat, and one before the main. thats what mine is like.

A '97 V8 will be the 5.2, not the 4.7, so COULD be a different set-up.

I have the 5.2L in my 1998 Dakota, it has a single cat and a pre- and post-cat O2 sensor. Mine is federal emissions, not sure if California emissions requires a pre-cat on each pipe off the manifold?

Before the swap, the V6 had one cat after the Y-pipe with a pre and post O2 sensor. The Edelbrock header/Y-pipe setup i bought for that year with a V8 has the same setup. UWAdventurer, you dont happen to live in California, do you? Thanks for the replies.
