Unhappy Electrical Problem

Hello
I have a 2002 Dodge Dakota.
Two issues.
First: When it is dark and I need to turn on lights. I have a problem. If the door is ajar and I am in drive my lights start flashing, all lights. But it will not do this in the daylight.

Second: As above when my gas gauge shows I need fuel it does the same. Lights start flashing. All lights

Please help

Kevin

It could be a bad ground.

The interior lights, central timer, and fuel gauge (instrument cluster) all share the same ground.

The CTM controls the lights.

It's located on the right side of the instrument panel near the central timer module. Clean it, make sure its tight.

good luck.

Just looked at where CTM is an found that the last person that owned did some wiring them self's. All sort of wire taps and not sure where they go. This sucks because they charge so mush to find problem at dodge.

Yeah, cleaning up someone else's mess is never fun.

At least you likely found out what's going on.

Any suggestions. If I unplug all the wires do you think that will fix this problem. I did unplug four of them one by one to see but still have problem. I am pissed right now because a am on disability and can not afford a shop to fix. Any help would be grateful.

hey 98dakaz im sorry you feel that way one bad apple should not spoil the bunch but at the same time you said YOU have tried many times to fix it and it sounds like it took you a while to succeed at it if you would have taken it to a stereo shop they may have fixed it in an hour and only charged you $50. Bearfroese, i would recommend taking it to a electronics shop if you feel that you are not knowledgeable enough on the aftermarket alarm install to tackle the problem yourself. too much can go wrong and cost you more than the shop will cost you. just my $0.02 worth. ( i fix these kind of problems almost daily!)

00DakDan is your best bet for this

Without being at your truck and looking at it I could never help you on this forum as I said my wires are a mixed up mess also.

He will need all the info you can give him like do you have a stereo is it stock OEM or aftermarket what kind of alarm system do you have any other add on’s that need wiring

Can you supply any pictures up under the dash of the wiring?

if you can, let us know what unit you find under the dash. that way we can let you know which wires can be unplugged and which ones need to be reconnected
