2000 Sport 2.5 - how do I access spark plug #1
So, Dan, when I take the bezel off from around the instrument cluster, do I need to pull the instrument cluster also? I have done that before and the shop had pulled the cluster when troubleshooting the ECM. The instrument cluster diagnostics appear to work correctly and do not give an error. But I want to make sure I'm looking in the right place for the ground wire. I do have a service manual also.
Talk about putting me under pressure
The dome light is run by the CTM. Either the headlamp switch or the door ajar switches can trigger it.
The dimmer isn't part of the CTM. A rheostat controls the voltage to a number of the lights, the sheft bezel, ashtray, and also to the instrument cluster.
It sounds like the radio was the trigger here. Just swapping radios should not do anything. The connections are identical and there are grounds in the connectors.
The radio and the door ajar switches (for the dome) do share a ground. G203. I attached a diagram. It's on the RH side of the instrument panel. I'd check that ground carefully.

Oka, I'll look there, and I'll check the manual. That area down by the emergency brake is supposed to be notorious for problems. Okay, time for this Okie to go watch OU and UTEP!
Why are you pulling the cluster? When you say ECM, you do mean the Engine Control Module or the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) right? Dodge calls it a PCM and I want to be sure you aren't talking CTM.
G203 is on your other right
by the passenger door. Near the Infinity Amp, if you have one.
You can certainly check those grounds however.

When my PCM went out, the truck just died. I was driving, all gauges dropped, lights, radio, everything just stopped. The shop was checking the cluster in addition to the PCM,
Now with the dome light, the door ajar issues, etc., this seem to be tied to the CTM. ANd now in the morning I will checkc the ground on the passenger side!
Thanks tons, night guys.

I say check both grounding points on both sides just too be sure anyway.
The pannels pull out backways if you look at the clips you can tell
This is the passenger side

about the spark plug socket...may sound a bit stupid, but i always take a lil bit of WD-40 and spray inside of spark plug socket holds it and lets it go quite decently, LOL i have even spit in a few, it works too
Thanks, Dan. My achey bones are up and moving now. I should be back in the repair-guy mode shortly. Amazing when you haven't done shade-tree mechanics for years how your body reacts to crawlin into the engine!
Should I disconnect the negative battery cable when checking these wires?
Also, jst curious - I've read about taking both battery cables off and holding them together for 10 minutes. What does this accomplish?
