Look at the fuel pressure. My dakota would do this when the fuel pump went. It would run for about 2 or 3 min then take forever to start. Other times it would start right up.

If you were driving and it would cut out mabe tps but I dont think it would do that at a idle after 2 or 3 min of driving. The alt could be part of the problem and also bad connections at the battery.

the vehicle hasnt driven in 2 months. i it cuts out in park and in neutral. it also did it a couple times before i started the rebuld, back when the truck was still in service. i would go to go to work... and the only way i could get it to start and stay running was to play with the throttle cable on the gas pedal.. either the cable streched out... or the TPS is junk, cause i shouldnt have to fiddle with the cable to get it to run..

i really wanna point the blame at he TPS.. but i need to test the alt still

truth betold, im probably just gonna replace both.. cant hurt it.. i mean the motros got 235k probably due for a sh*t ton of work.. but i aint gonna mess with a still very strong motor with no pinging, knocking and ticking.. the only tick i have was the flywheel plate cover that was never fully bolted back on to the tranny

my next question is, the oil fill is on my valve covers, i intend taking them off and cleaning /painting, and regasketing with FELPRO gaskets.. if there is any sludge build up under the covers, is there a oil safe cleaner that i can use to celan that crap up? i dont wanna be spraying a cleaner that will seep into the motor and f*ck sh*t up... and ideas /suggestions

I would say post some pic's if bad and go from there hopfuly all you will see is a small amount I would say if thats the case dont clean now just put the cover back on after painting and use some mmo for the next year in your oil to clean the crap off at a slow pace.

You dont want chunks of goop falling into the crankcase and plugging up the oil intake and cooking the engine.

Some help on posting pic's make them 10'' wide at most that size fits the best without over kill in size 8'' may be better just post and check the size

Well if you are looking at it that way might as well just replace all 3 sensors. Map,tps and iac. I'm not sure on the whole sludge thing. Tho if you put a cleaner in it the oil pan really should come off to make sure you get it all out
