Default Oil leaking out by fan help please!

So I was driving home and the battery kept going to low and saying check gauges, and i heard a clunking sound, opened hood and oil was sprayed everywhere (didn't lose much according to dipstick though). I then noticed the fan was not under it's cover, and is closer to the motor, the pulley that the fan attaches to moves freely back and forth, diagonal, etc. I believe this is when the oil is leaking out... I attached a picture of it, the one im talking about is the pulley behind the bolt middle picture. Is this a bearing that went? or what else would cause this and how do I fix it?

Are you sure it's oil? I'd say your water pump failed.

You can get oil but you'd have a hole in the timing chain cover to do it, it can happen. It's behind the water pump.

What engine?

4.7 and yes it's oil, coming right from behind the part the fan is attached to. It's easy for me to tell because when I rev it the fan wobbles around and bashes the sides, which was causing the sound.

Don't run it.

The timing chain cover has been holed most likely. A bad water pump can do it, it's bolted right to it and with it wobbling, it probably wore a hole. Check your oil. You'll likely find antifreeze in it.

Basically, the bearing in the water pump failed.

Just to add, there is oil in the fan clutch.

But if you see the pulley moving it's likely the water pump.

One of us isn't getting what I mean. The shaft that the fan is attached to is wobbeling, causing it to hit against stuff. And leaking oil out of it too. Isn't it the crankshaft?

No, the fan mounts to the water pump. The crankshaft is on bottom below the water pump. With the shaft loose, it can puncture the timing cover, allowing oil and antifreeze to mix and contaminate both systems, not to mention cause one heck of a leak.

I would say replace the belt too, there is probably no way to completely get all of that oil and coolant off of it. Also check and replace the tensioner if needed and clean all of the pulleys to get any oil and coolant off of them too.
