Default ABS noise, no light

I have recently bought an 02 QC Dak. Love this truck! But...

When I brake hard sometimes the brakes just let go for a second. I can also hear a clicking noise. At first I thought it was in time with the wheels, but it isn't.

I'm pretty sure it's ABS because I pulled the fuse under the hood for it and the noise and behavior goes away.

Any ideas? Speed sensor?

sounds to me like the ABS is working "normally". That said, I can go from 50 to 15 in about 3-5 truck lengths and ABS never kicks in that I can feel. But if I drag the brakes then deck it, I'll hear the solenoids popping.

The noise I can get over. The weird lurch that causes an uncontrolled stop I really don't like.

Remove the sensor and clean it (them).

If you have all wheel ABS it could be one of the front sensors has a problem.

Just a guess

Default research

I'm almost positive I don't have four wheel abs. From what I've gathered:

02 Dak only had rear wheel abs
There's only one sensor for the rear
If any one wheel looses traction, it releases all four brakes

When I took the fuse out, I didn't have any of the strange releases of brakes. But one back tire very easily lost traction.

So new tires fixed most of my problems. The Wild Country brand tires just weren't cutting, even though they still have two quarters worth of tread left.

Now on to shocks. Any recommends?

4 wheel ABS was available in '04.

Rear wheel ABS only affects the rear wheels, not all 4. If 4 wheel ABS it will work on either front or both rear, depending upon what's going on. It should not "lurch."

Contact Dodge for a build sheet, it'll let you know exactly what you have.
