all i ever get told is only a 97 will work. i found a 96 4wd 44re for $350 but i dont want to buy it if it wont work. other places want 500 or more for a 97 and i still wouldnt know what im getting. if the 96 will work i was going to get it and put it in my truck and rebuild mine over the winter. even with buying the 96 and rebuilding my 97 i would come out cheaper than the only trans shop in town would charge to have my truck for a while and still probly mess something up.

There shouldn't be any major differences Brad. The 44re is hydraulically controlled, not electronic. There might be some differences in the electrical connectors though.
Any good boneyard, if that is where you're getting it, should be able to look it up in an interchange manual.

i just checked the t.v cable and it seems to be set right but it stops about 3/4 of the way back. is it supposed to stop or should it open all the way? when i move it by hand it moves real easy to where it stops by moving the throttle then it gets harder to move to move it all the way back.
