Default 2001 Dakota 4.7 engine differences?

Bought a 2001 Dakota 4x4 with seized engine. Bought a used 4.7 motor from a 2001 Dakota with the right N in the VIN for the tone ring. Now that I've unwrapped the replacement, it doesn't seem to have the same engine mounts as the one I pulled. Is there a way to check the serial numbers to determine if I was sold the wrong engine? Noticed a couple of other small differences but the mounts are my big concern.

Thanks, rebuilding this truck with my son and we're both learning a lot.

The bolt holes in the block should be in same place. 4x4 and 4x2 use different engine mounts. Should be a casting number on the block.

Thanks Magnethead. Just looked more closely and the headers are also different. Another 4x2 and 4x4 difference? Hope I can swap those parts over...

I'm not sure what all the front diff gets in the way of. I know the oil pan and mounts are different, headers would not surprise me (to go around the front driveshaft). The casting number would be the easiest way to tell.

Thanks again I'll look at the casting numbers tomorrow. I'm thinking they shipped me a 2WD engine.

Default Reman?

looks like I got a reman from 10/2011. Here's a pic of the plate. Can't read it in the picture but I wrote it all down and will post it later. Maybe someone recognises whose plate this is

Default pictures!

Well after pulling the old engine we can see the end of the casting numbers are the same and also were able to relocate the engine brackets. Have to swap the 4wd headers onto the new engine, swap valve covers (hole in one of the newer composite ones) put on new water pump, belt, idler, hoses, throttle body etc. Headers and mounts seem to be the only differences between the 4WD and 2WD engines. Here's a couple of pics

Double check that oil pan. I could have sworn they were different.

Yep I looked again and they are slightly different. Check out the new thread I started to try and ID the rebuild tag. Then I'll start ANOTHER to chronicle my coming fracas with AM Used Auto Parts - they shipped me a supposedly run-tested motor and when last night I went to change the VCG's found that 3...3! rocker arms were totally missing on one side - and another one fell out - basically every other rocker arm on the right side was out of place or missing!

Well my eyes deceived me. The rocker arms were there they just fell out and were in the oil channels. Ha, ha it's amazing what sunlight will reveal. Still trying to find a 4x4 oil pan as I can see the different profile between the two but the original 4x4 pan was ruint. Anybody know a site showing the two?
