Do you have the lever for 4x4, or is it electronic shift?
Hey thank you for the reply. Woowww, yeah I'm going to go and check right now but I don't think they are honestly. But at the same time I know this was their daily driver and the guy was a mechanic so I would hope he wasn't that stupid but there's a possibility I suppose that he was just unaware. Also though I have a 99 dodge ram 1500 4x4 5.9slt would I be able to take the tcase and the cv axles off of that to swap onto my Durango? The whole thing is just that ram is my only working vehicle at this point in time and I live in the country so I would hate to pull parts off my running truck only to try and put them on my Durango and have that not work out. Not to mention I can't be without a vehicle for too long at all.

And I have the lever for the 4x4

Ram is a solid axle front, so, none of those parts will interchange. At least, not without a LOT of fabrication work. The t-case might swap, but, if the truck runs/drives, I would be real reluctant to scavenge parts from it.

So I fixed the problem I was so fed up with this thing kuz i mean I had literally had it working fine and then it goes into 4wd and all hell brakes loose basically. But anyways I figured im gonna have to replace the tcase if I can't get this figured out any how so I told my self like im getting the lever to go up come hell or high water. I had my foot on the thing and in pushing with all my might and I finally see it move out of four PT on the dash which is going towards two-wheel drive. So with my one foot putting pressure on it I use my other foot to hit the gas and see if I can make it move and sure enough it took off like a batt out of hell and I go flying forward toward my truck and the last moment I was able to maneuver my foot over to the brake kuz it had gotten kind of stuck. So now I knew if I get it to go forward it will engage back in the two wheel and I'll be fine so I went and got a scissor jack and put it in between my seat and the 4x4 shifter and just started turning that bad boy and sure enough I got it pushed into two wheel drive but it hadn't gone all at once. I was having to drive it around with the Jack still in place and then finally after about 5 minutes of driving that bad boy finally got unstuck and all the pressure that Jack had on it finally pushed it into two wheel high fully and I'm able to take the jack off and everything's been fine since shockingly.

I'm going to take some pics though of the front wheels where the cv axles would be and just double check that Its good. To me it looks like the outer part is there but just the inner part that actually turns the wheel physically isn't connected if that makes any sense.

And lastly. The engine on my other 97 part Durango is still in good condition and it's the 5.9 magnum. How much of a hassle would it be to swap the 5.9 magnum into my truck in replacement of the 5.9 LA that's in it currently kuz it needs the plenum gasket, the head gasket was blown previously and someone put so stop leak bs in it and fixed it for the time being and it's held on now for a good 2 years some how but the engine is just gutless like zero power at all and terrible mpg. So I want to just wash my hands of it and swap in the magnum. Everything looks all of about identical as far as I can tell. Is there something I'm missing though or it's pretty straight forward?

The LA engines went away in 93 for the 5.9. If it has the kegger intake on it, its a magnum already.......

Default I have a 1999 Dodge 1500 4x4

Can I go to a new year of truck to swap out transmission directly or do I have to stick with 1999 and older? Thanks in advance.

Anything 96 to 99 should work. 2000 and up, the electronics are different, 2003 and up, the neutral safety switch is also different, though there are adapters to use the old style switch. (requires changing part IN the trans, not too bad of a job.) Also, the trans needs to be from a 4x4.

Ive rebuilt the valve bodies side by side and they are identical. I've swapped the transmissions throughout those years and no issues. This applies to 4wd only because the 96-97 2wd transmissions have the speedometer output in the tailhousing.

will a 99 ram 1500 swap with a 2004 dakota?
