Same issue here as well. I want to hook my 1977 Ramcharger's 440 to a 8HP 70 4x4 trans. No one makes a Chrysler RB to SB adapter (UH WHAT?) and as far as I have read on the internet it's a rarity and a very expensive engineering process to have one made and so is the info LOL. So stuff I have learned even after 35 plus years owning Mopar products First off all 440 block controversy: There is absolutely no difference between a 440 block with an HP or HP2 stamp or one without after 1968. In 1969 support ribs around the freeze plugs with another rib from the freeze plug to the head deck on each side of the block. The passenger side of the block also has a horizontal rib between freeze plugs and head deck for strength. 1973 larger water galley's (called a figure 8) between block and head are added to help keep the engine cooler. Lastly, thicker motor mount ear in 1975 -1979 blocks because they were known to break off easily if over tightened. 440 blocks known as "industrial / cold weather or heavy duty truck" blocks have another rib pattern all together, with even more rib reinforcements. It's what goes in and on it that separates them. The "best" 440 blocks IMHO.....................the 75 - 79 blocks not the 66 - 71 blocks.. Phew glad to get that out. 440 blocks commonly known as "industrial / cold weather or heavy duty truck" blocks have another pattern all together, with even more reinforcements
Since the LA 318 SB was cast, Chrysler SB bell housing bolt patterns have remained the same on all Chrysler small blocks. Yes even the NAG 1, 8 HP 70 or ZF8 bell housings. Now to clarify that last statement, the bolt pattern is the same.
Adapter plates: They make them for about every Chrysler Hemi engine EXCEPT the GEN 3 Hemi (remember the small block bolt pattern) to any Chrysler big block. Wait aren't all SB the same bolt pattern? Yes but I CANNOT get one retailer or manufacturer to say it will work on a 8HP 70 4x4 trans. Believe it or not a controller for the transmission is easier to find. You will/may need a different flex plate and spacers but should be totally do-able. Pay attention to the starter side as Jeep for example uses a right side starter. They make a ton of B/RB to Chevy trans adapters. I WILL NOT USE A CHEVY TRANSMISSION............... EVER!! Now that you know where my loyalty is. IF ANYONE HAS THE TECHNICAL DRAWING FOR THE 8HP70/ZF8 BELLHOUSING and could graciously message me a copy, you would make this virus vacation tolerable and will also let you know the results

This guy went the other way, 8HP70 behind a Chevy engine. What's wild is he actually got out a soldering iron and some wire and built a standalone controller for the trans. Look at the engine to trans adapter he made, doesn't look like it would be hard to make an adapter so if you can't find one, have a machine shop make one. You can make a template with foam poster board.

I cheated and bought my controller LOL but the reason I did is so I can use that rotary shifter and 4x4 controller from a newer ram truck and can I also add paddle shifter. Why do I like them? They take up no room hardly on a custom build.
Did you know the controller is part of the valve body for the 8HP45/70 transmission. The W5A580 NAG1 transmission has a external controller. What year is the transmission out of?
