2002 Dodge Dakota busted head?
Thanks HeyYou. I still have to wonder if I replaced that lifter which was seized and the rocker that fell off, if by pressure of the rocker being replaced, it would stay somewhat in place(refer to picture of the chunk that broke off) Is there any kind of material that would stick to oily aluminum where a bridge could be formed for more support around the lifter? I know that's stretching things but i am curious.
Not that I am aware of..... Someone might be able to weld it.... if they have the right equipment, but, that may cause more problems than it solves......
Best bet is to just bite the bullet, and replace the head. SOON.

Understood but a bit of a job(time and $). Might try to put the lifter and rocker back in and see what happens first. Would you say a head replacement would cost around $1200 to $1500 or so? Engine swap might be the better way to go.
If you can find a good used engine, that may indeed by a cheaper/easier/faster way to go....... It would also have the advantage of: You wouldn't care about the engine in the truck, and could drive it as is till it either blew up, or, you were ready to do the swap.
Now I'm thinking of using High heat Jen Weld to form the area that broke. A little brake cleaner then place a form, replace the lifter and rocker. I'll let the forum know what happens. What do you think?
Pull the head and find out what happened and if there is any damage before you destroy the rest of the engine.
Disaster? It may not be the correct way, but if it works for a while, buys you time, and MIGHT save ****s load of money, Why not? What's your take on time and money if it was sent to a mechanic to fix? There may be other problems that may increase the bill.
Why did it fail in the first place? That is the question.
Dropped valve seats are common on #2 as I told you earlier. They don't magically remain seated after that. It will cause damage as you have. Next time it may be worse and damage the bore.
