Default Dakota oil leak

checked oil was a little low so I added some. It sat for about 12 hours or so without running, noticed a small puddle of oil underneath the middle of the truck. Oil still in safe mark on dipstick. Any suggestions what to all check?

Look up from where the puddle was, and see where its coming from. Giving us at least a general idea of where on the engine/trans its leaking from will help us help you.

No, don't use that stuff. It can clog up things. Get under the truck with a good light and look to see where the leak is coming from. If necessary, clean the motor first with engine wash then see where the leak springs from.

If it leaks when the engine is NOT running, wonder if the oil pan is rusting out......

Who knows. There are a million things we could guess at. Might be something as simple as a loose drain plug.

if it is a very slow leak or seepage- which it appears to be - is it ok to drive it while trying to identify the issue?

If it stays consistent and you're checking and topping off, it's probably fine. There are plenty of vehicles running around with oil leaks. Not sure why you'd want to wait though. Dripping while the engine is off is pretty bad and will create a mess wherever you park.

FYI, I have had a rear seal leak on mine for years. Not enough to warrant adding oil between changes. Built a small pan directly under the bell housing. It grabs the oil enough so it don't leak on the driveway. It's only a little 12 x 12 pan and mounted to the cross member. Drilled and tapped a 1/4-20 hole, two of them, enough to support the pan. Worked out great, should have done it years ago.

It looks like it is coming from transfer case. When parked for awhile I noticed a small puddle under transfer case and the transfer case was a little moist but still trying to see exactly where it's coming from. Any suggestions? Also worst case scenario I need a new transfer case/rebuild? How much for that approx ?
