My ac randomly blows on and off. When it’s on it works just fine is ice cold. But sometimes it doesn’t turn on at all. The. Randomly it will turn on while driving or starting up the truck. The ac compressor clutch switches on and off when the ac is set to on at max air but no air comes out. Could it be a bad compressor?

 

Nope. That's a a failing blower motor, or resistor block, or switch.....

 

Thank you. I’ll look in it. How would I know if it’s either one of those? Just replace one by one?

Need to wait for it to stop working, and see where it is losing power at. I do believe the switch simply selects which wire from the resistor block gets grounded.... So, when it ISN'T working, see if you got power AT the blower motor.

 

Okay I’ll do that. The relay and the resistor are both cheap I could replace them for all of 20$ and go from there. Because the resistor selects the power of the air blowing. And when the air is on it works on all four clicks. So it can’t be that. It didn’t work all day today. But tomorrow when I go to start the truck it probably will. All the lines are ice cold and the ac dryer/receiver is ice cold too

 

I vote resistor pack.

 

The blower motor is on it's own circuit through the ignition switch. No relay. If you can check power at the motor itself it should ALWAYS be hot - 12v. The ground side is switched.

 

Well I replaced the resistor, and still nothing. The ac compressor clutch is cycling on and off I’m gonna assume so it don’t burn it’s self out. Everything is cold. And has condensation on it. So it can’t be Freon and if it was low on Freon it would blow hot air. So I’m gonna replace the entire blow motor and see if it works after that and go from there. Hopefully it’s not any internal wires or the ignition switch cause that’s a bi**h
