I've been searching around Europe for now, the biggest problem is there aren't any parts or they are too expensive.

Like mentioned before there's a 03 Durango 4x4 in the junkyard, so the 03 manifold might be in reach, there are more Rams out there so a 2003-2008 intake would be something i can get my hands on.
Only thing with the manifold is i'm afraid to lose more Torque and that's a no go even if i gain some mpg's i think it might shift out of OD with the Jeep TCM with the lack of torque.
Other thing is, when changing intakes, i rather step up to the 08+ or even better 2011-2013 intake if i can find one....

I'm looking at old engines for sale at about $ 3.000,= to the newer used ones and they are like $ 7.000 to $ 8.000,=
They come from totalled vehicles and many of them are high milage and without intake, dynamo starter en such, it's unbelievable.
Biggest problem on those engines will be they have the new PCM.

There's a few 4.7 HO engines out in Germany, and seen some HO Heads for sale, don't know the prices yet.
If i can find a pair, heads or cams, i think i might jump on this, think this will be the easiest change in my case, because i can't get other parts over here.

I'm looking at 4.7 Dakota's, Durango's Rams and Aspen and Grand Cherokee's, there aren't many of them with a 4.7.

Either way if i look at prices on used parts, i think i will never be able to get my money back on them even with the high gas prices over here.

We'll see how thing work out on your's and i will go from there and see what's available, so far no TB's other than the 03 68mm over here.

Is this 1st hand experience with HPT?
Now you have me questioning myself. I know for a fact that EFI Live requires 2 licenses on newer GM vehicles. HP Tuners is new to me, so far the only thing I've done with it is turn on electric fans for my Colorado. HP may not require a 2nd license, which I would be happy if I'm incorrect on that aspect. I won't be tuning a Dodge until my Durango goes out of warranty, and my Dakota is currently sitting at a shop pending a new frame.

there are a few trans listed under the hp tuners supported list that require credits but the 45rfe is not one of them. this brings up another potential issue and thanks for discussing it ... it might be possible the jeep tcm may not play well with hpt since it is going to expect the correct programming in it. will have to check it out.

Just opened up a stock 2001 5.9 file and all of the controls appear to be available for the trans (meaning there are a bunch of parameters & tables that go right over my head since I have no experience yet). It does look like there are some tables to control torque management...

Interesting stuff in there for fueling & spark... cant wait to dive in.

The 01 fullsize trucks don't have a separate TCM.

Ordered correct coupling hoses for intake tube... site says 2~3 days for delivery.

Edit: An update on throttle body... temps dropped, snow got dumped and 4wd is being used often so... no good data to share on the TB mpg front. I did do a short fill as I rolled by a preferred gas station with 185ish miles on it and it gave 15.6 mpgs... but that included 80ish miles of snow & hard pack ice driving. When on solid surfaces (late in the day today), throttle body sure does shine... it is a worthwhile upgrade for $138 shipped (Ebay)

First off, before you do anything on tuning, save your stock tune in several places. If you screw something up, you'll be thankful you saved a baseline. When making adjustments, you'll also want to make baby steps. It's entirely possible to brick the ECM with a bad tune. It's also very possible to blow the engine.

There is a mistaken assumption that torque management is bad, it isn't. All it does is retard timing for a few millisecond while the transmission shifts. You can think of it like using the clutch on a manual trans, it's possible to shift without it but every time you do the trans takes a little damage. The retarded timing allows the trans to not see full power until the following gear is fully engaged and is very important for rubber band transmissions like GM's 4L60E. I've tuned several GM trucks and didn't really mess with torque management and never found having it to be a problem. When I experimented with shutting it off, all it got me was a harsher shift so I turned it back on. Increasing line pressure around 5 percent is beneficial, and you can adjust the shift points to make the trans shift the same way you would shift a manual trans.

Update... last 2 fillups in ~20-28* temps gave me 13.x & 14.x mpg. The drop I suspect is for a couple of reasons, 1 being the diff oils are 85W-90 wt front & rear and 2nd, the tune appears to dump a lot more fuel from what I can tell from the 5.9 JTEC file I've been reviewing. 1st drive in with the updated TB, cant say I notice any difference from the OEM one on the drive in... it is tough to keep the foot out of it, it definitely shines on acceleration events. I would expect with current weather that the 16.3~16.5 mpg tanks should return + whatever the TB gives or takes.

Intake tube couplers will be here today and assuming they fit, the tube will go in Wed nite.

Oh man 2nd update...ok so on the drive home, two of the hills is are long at approx 1ish miles in length. on both, truck can ever so slightly accelerate. I recall mentioning that a while back but... weather was much warmer then and as it got colder, that dropped off and the truck had to downshift to gain/maintain speed. The 70mm TB does appear to provide more part throttle low end torque.

Intake tubes arrived, confirmed fit, fits good & not hard to install like the boots in the kit.

P/N's for couplers:
1 x 3.25" Silicone Hump Hose, Black $16.99 P/N = SIL000430
1 x Silicone Reducer, 3.75" to 3.25" - Black $13.99 P/N = SIL000531

edit: whoops... did not confirm the hump hose end to the air box but the assumption is it will fit, based on the original one in the kit.

install should he tomorrow nite...
