Unhappy 02 Dakota Caliper bolts/pins

Putting new frnt break calipers on and one bolt hole stripped. Put in an oversisized bolt (went in crooked too ugh) then the other bolt hole stripped. Has anyone ever put two oversized bolts in one caliper?

Thanks!!

Welcome to DF! You can always to drill and re-tap to the next size bolt. Be sure to use the equivalent strength of bolt. Moving this to the 2nd gen Dakota section so others can assist.

Default I don't care how fast it goes, it has to stop

As previous poster stated I'd drill/tap(which requires machining it straight) or buy a new caliper. If it's an off road vehicle that's up to you. When it comes to brakes and the safety of you/others(family/fellow drivers) I don't mess around. If you have a fatality crash just modifying your brakes could put at fault whether it was the REAL prob or not.
Calipers are cheap enough to replace. safety first.

I don't think he means a bolt on the caliper. More likely it is the steering knuckle that has the stripped holes. The caliper pins screw into it and strip easily.

Advance sells a caliper slide pin with oversized threads for use in stripped holes:

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...archTerm=13894

I have one on my truck, I was sure glad they had it in stock that day. Part #13894 in the "Help" section of the store. Works like a champ. I think it would be fine to use 2 oversized pins in one caliper but the instructions said not to re-use an oversized pin on any later brake repairs.

You know why they strip out/jam up correct?

Because most don't make sure the caliper piston is pushed all the way in and all pressure is released before they install the caliper.

If you don't do that the caliper will want to go in crooked during install making alignment of the slider pins a hard project causing stripped out slider pin holes.

Yes this is correct. The caliper is fine but the bolt holes in the knuckle stripped out. Just wondered if anyone has put 2 oversized pins in one caliper? or one steering knuckle...thanks all!

yep, I have 2 on one side and 1 on the other. I'm in need of another brake job, and if $$ allows, I'm going to swap the entire knuckle and front brake package for the 04 package.
