Default Interior lights won't turn off!

Like the title says, they won't shut off. Sometimes it's all of them, sometimes it's just the rear hatch light. Getting tired of jumping the wife's car so I took the light out of the rear hatch, hopefully that stops the battery drain. Anybody have any ideas on where to trouble shoot this? It seems to have a problem with the headlights too, turning on when the switch hasn't been touched.

I have the same problem on my 04 durango. all the interior lights come on when i start the car and wont go off for 15 to 20 minutes. i heard it was something with the gauge cluster. but i wanted to see if anybody knows how to fix.

If you are still under warranty, you may want to go to the dealer. Sounds like the cluster has a problem. By any chance did you have the recall done?

I have started having some of the same problems. Recently I had to replace the battery after 3 years on my 05 Durango. As soon as we got the new battery in I started having problems. It's a Sears Diehard, which I've had before in other cars with no problems what so ever. The first problem was with the Low Inflation Indicator Light. It hadn't gone off in the 3 years that I owned the vehicle. Not it just stays on all the timeand I've had the tire company that I purchased the vehicle from recheck the pressure. The second problem I've had is the rear cargo lamp light comes on anytime I open the rear hatch. Now, I have toslam the rear hatch super hard for this light not to come on or stay off. I have never had to do this before. I didn't have the recall done but I'm considering it now. Any other suggestions on what I can check myself ?

LD:

If you continue to see wierd things happening like your D is possessed, could be your CTM. I have an 01 D, and my weirdness started with the door interior lights coming on by themselves as you ride down the road. Next was the door locks unlocking themselves. This was followed by repeated soundiing of the warning chime that tells you to check the gauges, but they all appear fine. Final straw is the rear wiper coming on by itself randomly.

I have an appt. with my dealer next Monday. I will let you know how things turn out. Info I have is that a dealer installed CTM is $300-400.00

JD:

In my case, the CTM diagnosis was correct. $485 later and all is back to normal. If you continue to have things come on by themselves, I would look into this possibility.

Good Luck Don
