2005 Dodge Durango Hemi 5.7L 4LO problem ?
I seem to be having the same issue(s) as everyone else
My brother the Ford Mechanic, doesn't really want to touch my Dodge. He did recently change the crankshaft sensor as that was a code and he will do my brakes, oil changes, etc. But troubleshooting is not his forte with my Durango.
Anyway - it looks as though I may need to have the TCM looked at. I LOVE my Durango - not happy it's a gas guzzler, but don't think I would be happy in anything but an SUV of it's size.
Thank you to all who have posted, hoping to get mine fixed so the kids and I can go to NC for our last vac together before summer is over.
Hope everyone is having a great summer!

I have been having the same problems as everyone else. My Service 4 wheel drive light came on and my 4lo light would start blinking. I took it to the dealer and they said my Front Control Module (FCM) is going bad. I wasn't about to pay $1200 for them to install a new one. So, after reading all your your post, I decided to get a new transfer case motor installed. That fixed my problem for about a week. It is now started acting up again and now I wonder if the FCM is the real problem. My problem is that I can't find a FCM online anywhere. I have a part number and everything. My question is that does the FCM go by a differnt name? Like ECM or something else. Any help would be appreciated. I can' afford $1200 to get this fixed
I have replaced my transfer case motor, and it still has the same issues. The dealership told me that i need a new TIPM which would run me about $2100 including installation. I opted to unplug the transfer case instead. I went to my local mechanic for an unrelated A/C issue, and explained to him the transfer case problem and the dealerships solution. He laughed! He insisted that the computer would not and could not fix the problem. He thinks it is either the electronic selector, or a wire shorted between the the switch and the selector motor. I am going to let him research and try and fix it here shortly. I will keep everyone advised of the outcome. This would be much easier if Chrysler would just admit to it and fix it!!!!!
I'll be curious what you and your mechanic come up with. That is what my mechanic, who is a very curious young man, came up with, but unfortunately I didn't have the patience and will to spend any more money on the problem, once the TCM replacement failed to solve the problem. He said he thought it was something in the wiring and would have to go thru the harness to try and find a problem causing the line voltage to engage the TCM.
I started hearing my linkage clicking around about 2 weeks ago. That is the sure sure sign that the TCM is failing. And sure enough, today, after 8 months of having no problems after replacing the TCM on December 10, 2011, the warning light came on and I was stuck in 4Lo. Darn it.
I hope Hower5 has some success with his mechanic.
It was really strange this time as before the linkage noise was usually triggered by me using my keyless entry. This time it would just start acting up without doing anything. It was almost like it was receiving some wireless signal from some other transmitter or something.
I had to disconnect the TCM so I can use my Durango again.

Having a similar problem with my 2005 Durango 5.7 Limited. SVC4WD light comes on intermittently and car has actually switched off once. Also heard the transfer case engaging and disengaging under the car after car is off and doors locked. Reading similar posts from other sites via google search, a few people say the problem lies with the Transfer Case Control Module and not the Transfer case motor. Has anyone managed to resolve this problem by only switching out the control module? As I live in Europe with no access to a Dodge dealership this problem poses a major problem for me!
