2005 Dodge Durango Hemi 5.7L 4LO problem ?
#11
I was notified on Monday that Jasper would be rebuilding my transfer case. I did a little research, and am happy that someone other than Dodge is working on this! Their website advertises a 3yr/100,000 mile warranty on all rebuilt transfer cases. Better than the Dodge warranty! Hopefully I will have it back by the end of the week, but I'm not holding my breath. It is kind of funny that Dodge would have to contract out to have their own parts repaired. Does it mean that they don't know what they are doing?

2005 Dodge Durango Hemi 5.7L 4WD problem fix
I finally broke down and put my Dodge into the shop ... the final straw was when I was driving, the Dodge shifted into 4WD by itself. It was difficult to shift back to AWD (had to stop and switched to 4HI, 4LO, AWD for a bit for it to catch back on 4WD) .. and service 4WD light came on too. I took it back to Dodge dealership who told me the first time it was my brakes ... but this time, there was ample indications to point them in the right direction. They stated it was 4X4 Actuator failure. They replaced 4X4 actuator and installed 5143477AA (gear motor: transfer case) .. cost of part was $284.00 & labor was $276.99. Then they have to do MOC transfer motor case & add automatic transmission fluid (fluid cost was $23.40 & labor was addtl $66.55) ... and they charged me shop supplies in the amount of $78.11 .. total cost $780.08. They also found seal leak in rear axle & I need new EGR part (which have cost me another $900 to fix which included differential) ... If you have this same problem .. buy the part yourself and put an ad on craiglist for Dodge mechanic to fix your problem. Good luck out there.

Same damn issue. My 05 Durango would slip into 4lo after I drove it about 15 miles as long as I didn't use (yeah it sounds crazy) my keyless lock. If I locked my car the control module would kick in at anytime it wanted, middle of the night, while driving, key on or off. It was crazy. Sometimes I could hear the linkage clanging back and forth as soon as I hit my Keyless Unlock button.
Finally the dealer got it to act up by sneaking up on my car (after 6 tries) on my 3rd visit to the dealer.
They propose fixing it for $1,400.00 for labor and parts (Fuse Block that is on back order for a week and Front Control Module that is on back order for sometime in the next 30 to 60 or so days). They had to unplug 4x4 so I could drive the damn thing.

The dealership also unplugged the transfer case so that I can drive the vehicle. Everytime I tried to use the electronic doors locks, the transfer case motor would become active. They told me that there is a short in the TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module) $2300 to replace including labor. I did some reseach and it seems that the TIPM is notorious for causing this type of problem. Way to go DODGE!

They ordered two parts for replacement. A Fuse block(4692013AD - $237.00), this was backordered and will take 5 to 8 weeks to get here, and a FCM (Front Control Modue - $779.00), this was backordered and will probably take 8 to 10 MONTHS to get here.
They also unpluged my 4WD motor so it wouldn't go into 4WD until the parts are replaced.
Seems strange that the dealers are replacing different part on yours and fixing the problem.
