Default 2004 Durango's engine misses when it rain or goes through the car wash?

My 2004 5.7L Hemi Durango's engine misses whenever it is raining outside or inside the car wash. We have changed the plug wires and got a tune up at the local dodge dealership, but it still misses in those two situations. Does anybody know anything about this?

There is another thread about this and the water runs down the windshield into the engine bay. I think there is a part from Mopar the deflects the water. I will look for the earlier thread,

Welcome to DF
Do you have spark plug wires or coil packs? Because you must be getting water pass either the seals on the coil pack or the wires need to be replaced.

Agreed. A new ww cowling from the dealer or remove your old one, silicone under it nicely and reinstall. Water is going under the cowling into the engine compartment and causing your problem.

Could water under the cowling also be causing my 2006 Durango to take about 5 to 7 seconds to crank during or after a good rain? I've had this happen several times, mentioned it to the dealer, but since they could not reproduce the issue, they said they could do nothing about it. This could be the answer I am looking for.

I wanted to see if you tried what is suggested here. I also have a 2004 v8 Hemi that does the same thing. We changed plugs & wires but it still does it in the car wash & when it rains.

Dodge will gladly SELL you a new cowl<GRR> , you can silicone the one you have, or you can get used to it. Once it starts it won't go away until you seal it up. You will also see way more corrosion on your back plugs. I think I finally found my spot and got it sealed for now. It's a bummer that they don't acknowledge this issue.

Default Same problem for 2 days!

Same problem here. Mine gets replaced tom. Does it hurt to drive it like this? I'll let you know the results, but the shop has already replaced and fixed one durango that was doing the same thing. Thanks to fascistfaction for showing me this thread!

I used a LOT of dielectric grease on the last 4 sets of back boots and it seamed to help a little. Don't forget about never-seize if you are using double platinum plugs. Finding and sealing the leak was what did the trick for now, but winter is coming up fast, that will be the test....
