got my new exhaust today
Ok I know what your sayin . My rides not setup for that much performance Im all for show . So Im sick of my srt exhaust on my sxt cause everyone else is doing it so I think im going with two cf Hks mufflers and doing my own custom exhaust.
sorry guys i had to say something here i don't do much talking here but i do read a lot. but i have an 01 rt and boughta new factory mopar brand 2 1/2 i think i know it is not 3in for the srt (neonstore). but anyways, spickeymickey87 knows what he is talking about it did hurt the performace a lot. I live in louisville ky. and the cops loved me. the day i but it on i got pulled over twice not one but twice cause it was so loud. and iwas not even getting on it either, first one was going through town and he was behind me, then on the interstate.then a week later i got pulled over again and had 30 days to fix. so i went to the local napa store and bought a glass pack muffler (20 bucks or so) and but that on and it helped a little. what that did was give a deeper tone and took all the crakling out of it. but 5thgear still roared and the wife still b*****. so i but it back on the lift and cut the resointer out that it came with the sytem and put another glass pack on it and gotmost mypower back and made it quite enough the police said they could live with it and gave it a really nice tone. i really was happy with it so slowsxt let me know how many times you get pulled over
I don't think anyone here is disagreeing with the fact that the neon doesn't need a 3inch exhaust. I also think nobody disagrees with the fact that it will actually make you lose power. Now how much power is the question...if we're talkin 5-10 hp, BIG DEAL. Neons are a great looking car when you deck them out, but they are not fast cars, period, unless you go crazy and start putting in camshafts, and turbos,and all other internal crazy ****. But for the people who have done all the bolt ons possible (like me), that realize the neon wasn't really moving considerably quicker than before realize that if the neon is still not goin to be crazy faster, mine as well invest in a full stainless steel catback srt-4 exhaust. We're not going 3" because we think it wll help us, were doing it because it looks great, sounds great, and mounts great with our bumpers. I've done so much **** to my neon performance wise, so its not like im going the all show no go route, shes definately a quicker ride that looks mean, i just want something that will look better than the out of place vibrant dual and that will be a lot louder because i love exhaust thats loud and that backfires. When i replace my vibrant i def. will be putting some resonators or cherry bombs on it, ill tone it down so i wont get pulled over, but it will look great and sound even nicer than the muffler that's on their now...but guys, seriouslly, you really cant get too bent out of shape of losing a couple horsepower here and there, every mod has an advantage and disadvantages throughout the power bands of the car, im sure with a 3" you can see some better hp at the upperend, because realy neons aren't spectactular off the liner anyway, id rather have more horsepower at higher speeds whwere i want it anyway, but you guys need to realize were not choosing 3 because we think we need it, it's just a cool mod that looks great and is something different than the stock srt-4 set-up, just getting fancy with the exhaust so it will be fancy with the fancy lookin car lol! But its all good guys, neons are sweet, and look great, and will sound so mean with a nice srt-4 exhaust.
neons have a 132 hp...plus all my mods its hardly 150+, it all depends onm what ur tryin to do with it, either get a tite exhaust that take sa alittle out of ur hp range, or spend 3,500 to make it somewhat explosive...me, id rather not ddump too much into a neon to make it lightning fast, too much of a gamble on a cheap car, i love my car tho, and i just want it lookin unique and mean and sounding something crazy, if i have to lose a bit off the line, so what...i usually waste other 4 cylinders at higher speeds anyways while giving them some nasty noise...but im not tryin to get in an argument, u guys are right on losing horsepower on lower end, but its all in retrospect to what u want in the car..
i dont know about everyone else but when i first had it on before i installed the glass packs you will watch your gas go bye bye as well. it really hurt mine. know it is a lot better then what it was but nothing like it was but i also have a lot of motor work done. so i just dont think you can realize how much louder it is. if you have to go for long periods of time in the car you will hate it. can not hear the radio unless you have it all the way up. blew my front speakers out cause of it, if you have people in the car you have to scream at them so they can you hear you. so you can do what you want. i got it for looks to and i will agree with you it looks sweet. but damn if i had to do it all over again i would have went a different route and just changed the tips out for the 4in
I know what you're saying on that, but as crazy as it sounds, i love the loud noise. I love watching ppl go by with loud as cars, im that idiot who likes to **** ppl off cause his car is so loud.. i love goin by ppl with the black shiny car thats making all that noise. i definately will want to load it was resonators though to give it some scavenging and nto tone it down, but i love the backfire. I get about 36 mpg right now, so as long as it stays in the 30's ill be cool. But louieburns21, do you think you'd be willing to put up a sound clip or maybe even a video of your exhast system, itd be so appreciated, id really like to see what it looks like on a neon before i go and buy it and put it on, thanks!
