UDP worth it?
So here is a few question for the people that have them, or have heard of them. I want to get a UDP (the MPx one) its only $100. However, I have heard that they sometimes mess with your power steering unit and what not. I dont plan on getting an amp or subs (leaves more room in the trunk for mountain biking) so I think I would be fine with the power issue. But does it rob enough power from the alternator to really effect the important parts of the car? I have a K&N CAI right now, plan on exhaust and what not, nothing that would take more power away from the car (electricity that is). And does it really effect the low RPM range that much? Or is it only when you have the AC on that you can tell, becuase the car does suck with AC. Thanks

I think you can get power elsewhere without robbing your accessories. I have the basic bolt ons, and i feel as though my car can go without a UDP. I don't like the idea of ALWAYS watching my car...not keeping the lights on, not having the radio too loud or too many accessories....ehh just search for UDP and you'll see many instances in which they've been less than "energetic".
HAHA, GET IT! ENERGETIC! jk
brownies in the morning FTMFW!

Your accesories are robbing you, your just regaining parasitic power losses from the overly heavy cost cutting stock pulley that Dodge so kindly slapped on the end of the crankshaft. I have no idea what you mean by "ALWAYS watching" your car. You dont have to keep the radio down, or the lights turned off, or not use your blinkers, or keep the A/C off, or not use your power windows or power door locks because the voltage of the alternator still reamins at the proper 14.3-14.7v even with a UDP.

I know you can't sit with the car on and listen to music for too long. You can't keep the dome lights on too long..etc. Before you tell me that you can't do that even WITHOUT a UDP, i guarantee that it wouldn't be as bad. Don't get me wrong, i'm freaking dying to get a UDP...I really want one, but just before I buy one I think about the bad side effects. [X(]
BTW you can get a UDP with new belts for about $50 on the forums.

Do you have a voltmeter that you monitor? Because quite a few peeps on 2gn have and their responses to their low voltages were enough for me to say screw that. I agree that the accessories steal a bit of power, but to really please me i'd have to get an Optima yellow top, PT alternator, capacitor...

Theres always going to be some people who have negative affects when installing mods, thats just a fact. Just like some people experience hydrolock with a CAI, but the majority of people do not. Or like how some people have their rear mounts clunk when they have lowering springs and/or new struts installed, while some have no clunking at all. The same thing applies to UDP's...
Yes, but as a whole you DEFFINETELY see a lot more people with UDP problems than any other mod. It's one of the most controversial without a doubt.
I might get one...honestly I never have my dome light on. I crank up my music pretty loud, and I need new belts...so i might just spend $50 and get it all done.
Then I can share PERSONAL 2 cents.

I'll agree theres more "controversy" with a lightweight UDP then any other mod, and I can only give my personal experience with my Unorthodox UDP, which is a very postive experience overall.
Hey, I have a question. When I use my power windows my headlights and dash lights dim. Its really funny I think lol. And if I use both windows one really slows down. So wouldn't a UDP really affect that? I mean...the difference is so incredibly small its not putting you in any danger. The window slowly rolling up is kind of annoying though lol.
But yeah, if you haven't noticed lights dimming...do it. just flick your window switch up and down and watch. I laughed....
Worste scenario, do you want power or comfort. Because almost every mod will take that away. Thats why this car is the way it is, for economics. I'm not going to say a UDP makes a difference in your accesories because I haven't studied or tried one. I'm just stated a general...thought?
If I knew I wouldn't throw the thing away once I swapped then I would get one.
