If you had a 1G, the 2.4 swap is the better platform. Even n/a, the 2.4 puts out 30 lbs torque over the dohc and sohc. That is the real difference. The need to rev to 7k+ for power is eliminated with this dramatic increase in low end torque. Stock 2.4 swap peak at around 5500k, which is more than enough to get the job done. Those seeking more move on to head work and cams to maximize air flow to attain usable power about the 6k mark. Taking my 2.4 apart for cleaning while searching srt rods. They are not needed for this n/a build, but added security is good with 10.5 pistons.

BTW, I have an 02 r/t head, cam, and exhaust manifold if yoiu are interested. $350 plus shipping.

Yes. That is not a neon engine though. The A588/420A is found in the sebring, avenger, and n/a talon/eclipse. They have relatively the same options as neons, since the block is the same. The cylinder head (has the exhaust ports up front), but has after market cai, cams, valve train, and header option to choose from.

So your saying that the 2.4 has over 163 lb-ft of tq... the DOHC 2.0 in the first gens is rated at 150 and 133lb-ft.... as far as i knew the 2.4 was rated at 150 and 150... which yes 20 extra lb-ft is still pretty kick ***... but there are a few things you can do to gain a few extra ponies from a 2.4 before you drop it in... like removing the balance shafts... and if you can find a set cheap or have a set the 2.0 DOHC cams... which are bigger then the 2.4 cams... should be good for a few extra ponies to make the 2.4 swap really worth it.. besides any other bolt ons you do you will gain more from in the long run then you would with a 2.0... the 2.4 is a good base to start with if your planing on doing lots of mods... or is a good replacement if your 2.0 is dead...

SO many threads on that. Take a peek around. I'm sure there are some recent ones in which you can just scroll back through some pages...

the 2.4 bolts right to the 1st gen SOHC or DOHC tranny so tranny shouldn't be an issue... go into the first gen forums that will give you an idea of what it takes in a first gen... there should be some thread about srt4 swaps which should be simular...

just sell your neon and buy an srt4, you wont make power swapping the motor. you need the entire srt4 set up. you wont be happy going to the 2.0 magnum (i have an 04 r/t with it) its weak on power but better than a stock 2.0, but barely. they built the srt4 so neon owners could spend less money to make there neons fast. sell your car buy an srt4, it will save you alot of money and time.
