Default 2000 neon bogging, misfire and back fire through intake

check engine light came on with a 0301 code cylinder #1 misfire. It is bogging down at low rpm and back firing through intake but once speeds are above 40 and rpms are up it stops. I replaced plugs and plug tube gaskets due to oil leak and valve cover gasket. swapped plug wires and cleaned injectors and moved their position to see if misfire moves to another cylinder, no new engine codes but engine is still having same problem. it is intermittent but frequent. it also does it at idle. you can hear a miss out of the exhaust but no pattern to it, sometimes 2 in a row sometimes 3 and then none for a while. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

You've replaced the spark plugs and moved the wires and injectors and the misfire is still on cylinder 1. Going "upstream" from those, is the coil pack and its wiring.

if the coil checks out perhaps its fuel delivery, maybe #1 injector?

I would say possible burnt valve but that wouldnt be intermittent.

its also less noticeable when I ease into the throttle. The check engine light hasn't come on again ever since I reset it but I'm assuming it needs miles on it to go through diagnostics. So I don't know yet if it still on cylinder #1

ull need a volt meter set to OHMS
funny thing about coils is they can test fine but can break down with heat or vibration and be intermittent

how to test

I would have to say do a compression test and leak down test.

Thanks for all the info, I will test the coil first. Hopefully it tells me something, the problem is getting worse and going to higher rpms so if it is the coil pack I will be happy because that is not too expensive. Compression test I will do after, not hard to fix blown head gasket or burnt valves just dont want to get into such a job on a car that is needed daily. Again thanks for all the info, I will let you all know what I find
