Ok I'm a little puzzled. I have no oil leaks and don't have any smoke coming from my exhaust or any blow by from the PCV system yet I'm losing over a quart of oil a month. Any ideas on why this is happening and is it a sign my engine is starting to crap out on me? I use regular dino oil 10w-30.
It's going to one of those three places you mention. It doesn't just disappear. Are you positive no oil is around the oil pan or filter, or down the back of the engine? I don't mean you see oil dripping, but is it wet at all?
No, I just did the oil yesterday and everything was clean. I have a breather filter where the tube used to be connected to the valve cover but that also looks clean. I just got home from work so I'll let the car cool down and run my finger on the inside of the exhaust pipe to see if I feel/smell any oil.
I drive about 1,800 miles a month. I drive it fairly conservatively, only punch it when I'm passing someone or have to merge onto the state road I live off of. I like getting the 30+ MPG plus it has 146k miles on it.
I do believe I found my oil leak. Looks like it's the oil pressure switch. It's coming from the green plug in the pics. It's right under the freeze plug and to the left of the exhaust manifold bolt.
Yup! Those things are a common oil leak location. I bought a new one from Dodge (around $10), and put extra thread sealant around the threads before I installed it. I'd spray down that connector if possible...
What's the easiest way to get to it? What would I have to do to just take out the sensor and put in a mechanical gauge? I found one that is a half sweep so I can stick it behind my cluster.
I went over the valve cover. That's what was easiest for me, though, it still took a lot of effort to change it. You'd need to tee the factory sensor along with the aftermarket one, otherwise you'll get a warning light for no pressure.
