Stereo Installation in '05 Neon
Hi,
I made a thread quite a while ago about installing a radio in an '05 neon.
https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...questions.html
The Kenwood stereo was suggested, and I didn't end up getting it at the time due to the cost.
However, I recently got one and tried to instal it today. Apparently I messed up the wiring on the harness...
With the new stereo in, my car will either not run, or will start up and die almost instantly. With my old stereo in, the car runs just fine. So I'm guessing I messed up the wiring somehow.
I will post a picture or two of the wiring I did for the harnesses below. If anyone can point out what I may have done wrong, it would be a major help. I would like to avoid having to get this done professionally, though not because of the cost.
The harness adapter for the factory harness is on the left, while the new radio harness is on the right. If you see any cables incorrectly paired, please tell me what to fix.
Also, the harness that plugs into the factory harness has two black grounding cables and two yellow 12 volt continuous power cables. I know at least one black cable hooks with the black cable on the radio harness, and that the same is for the yellow cables...but I am not sure what to do with the extra black and the extra yellow cable. Do I just leave them in their separate crimp caps?
all wires are connected to like colors except for the extra black cord, the extra yellow cord, a blue/yellow cord (steering wheel control, no hookup), an orange/white cord (dimmer, no hook up) and a blue cord (forgot what for, no hook up).

Have you tried switching the yellow and black wires? I'm not sure what else it could be besides something to do with those, since the car works fine with the OEM stereo. What adapter harness did you get? I haven't ever seen one with two yellow and two black wires. Strange.
i've put stereos in any car i have ever owned and have never seen a harness with two yellow and two black wires you could try twisting the two yellow and two black together and then crimping the three wire combination together or it sounds like it might be a faulty harness and the blue is for power ant/amp turn on

Make sure you're connecting the correct wires to each other on the factory plug (male plug). If you can't find information on what wire does what with the factory harness, let me know and I'll dig out my book that came with my harness.
I'm a little confused...the harness just clicks in place over the end of the factory harness...so I can't change how wires are on the factory harness without cutting and moving them or something..
Okay, so I did some googling and read that with a harness that has two black and two yellow you just crimp them all together. So the three black cables are together and the three yellow cables are together.
Good news is that now the radio works. However, the car still does a second or two after starting the ignition.
My boss thinks it could be an anti-theft thing and suggests I disconnect the battery for 30 minutes before switching the radios again. If that doesn't work I may have to go to a dealership and get stuff reset.
It's acting the same as it does if I try to start it with a non-microchipped key. While I don't see how a radio could impact that, I can't discount the similarities.
Can anyone tell me, will I have to go to a dodge dealership to have the key and car re-programmed/synced, or can I go to any mechanic?

Still having no luck with the car. Could it be that the radio is interfering with the transponder key? Or that there is some kind of anti-theft on the car or new radio that is creating the problem?
