Default Sorta New to Neons

Hi Everyone,

Just acquired a 2000 Dodge Neon. I say sorta new to Neons, cuz I had to put a new roof on my mom's car after a giant tree fell on it. I also do most of the maintainence on the car. The Neon that I just acquired has a bad 5 spd manual tranny in it. I would like to replace the whole tranny with another used tranny. Will only a tranny from another 2000 Neon fit or are there other years that will work? Thanks for the help. Ps, I also drive a 07 Ram 3500 4x4. Luv the Cummins. Perry

Default towing with 2002 dodge dakota 4.7 QC 4x4

Anyone experience towing at least 3500lbs with OD on. Is it harmful to do so with the 45rfe transmission. Read about this tranny being rather durable however it sure downshifts alot especially any speed over 55 - 60mph. Have also read that OD shouldn't be used at all for towing anything over 500 lbs. Read also that the Dodge Dakota has a towing capability of up to 6000Lbs. If so why does it downshift so much with half that wieght on the slightest uphill grade or headwind. Is there some way to boost the towing performance of the 45rfe tranny. Talked to a local dealer and they recommended a flashing of the computer. Could anyone give some advice on this topic. Love my Dakota 4x4 - wished it had more towing capability. Is there any harm in towing with OD off at higher speeds like high RPMs at 65 -70mph.

I'm still kinda new here...but seems to me you might have a bit more luck asking these questions in the Dakota/truck sections, rather than here, the second generation Neon section =)

Default Having Fun

Hi Everyone. Have a 2000 Neon that I just acquired. 5 spd tranny is toast. Installing a used one soon. Also would like to put a ground effects kit on it and do a paint job. So far have 0 dollars invested. Even the new used tranny was free. People just want to get things out of their yard sometimes. Going to try to keep this project under a grand. See how it goes. Also have a 07 Ram 3500 4x4 Cummins that is my baby. Bone stock other than some bed protection. Live in Alaska. Will send pics of before and after on the Neon project. Perry
