You gain a much tougher front axle. And the earlier Dana 60s didn't have the pressed in the axles ball joints like the later models did. They are much better. You could also convert the front to full on manual locking hubs with old Ford parts if you wanted. I domt have that luxury

And a full floating rear and might as well upgrade to the real manly man 3 in leaf springs. They make a giant difference.

Yeah, they make it ride like a friggin' truck. Unloaded, my suspension kinda beats me up.

True. About 2500 pounds of dirt in the bed made it ride like a friggin' cadilac. And it was still controllable too.... 5000 pounds was a bit much, made the front end REAL light.....

Didn't do anything to my truck today. My shop consists of a packed gravel driveway and a piece of cardboard. Rained all night and so far, most of the day.
My wife was given a 2WD '96 Grand Cherokee about a week and a half ago by a grand daughter, so been getting that straightened out. Had to get a new battery and a set of tires. All was good till I got to the lumpy road by the house. Put new control arm bushings on the front lower, that took care of most of the clanking, but not all of it. Got upper bushings ordered and on the way, hopefully that'll take care of the rest of it. Then I've got a CEL code #11 to take care of. Then I hope to be able to get back to the truck. It never ends.

I've always considered a D60 swap since I've got 35's but I thought about it and I think, personally, I'm okay with stock axles. I know the D44 is nothing to brag about but I have no issues with the rear. I find it to be pretty stout. My reasoning for not doing the swap is because I've already put money into a stock axle gear swap and because I now have I think... 3 sets of D44s and 9.25 LOL So worst case scenario if and when I broke an axle shaft it only takes 15 minutes to swap in another and I've been fairly lucky with the D44. I broke 1 shaft in a year and a half and it was my fault .. Now A 241D swap is something so would be very interested in!!!

The 60 is only a step above the 9.25. That is actually a very stout axle. But the 60 is full floating where the 9.25 is semi.

This is probabbly around 3 thousand. Packed with fine, wet dirt composted from horse manure.
