Today, I broke the sumbitch. But just a little bit.

It seemed a good time to adjust the TV cable because the honey-dos were less fun. And it takes longer to smoke a cigarette than to adjust the cable, so I could get it done while I was out polluting the garage anyway... Rather than hang the tire step and bang my shins on the thing as I always do in my garage that fits like a condom, I just put a step stool next to the tire and got after it.

Next time I'll use the tire step. The step stool slipped at just the wrong instant and I couldn't let go of the little plastic mufker and not bash my face into the engine at the same time, so now the temporary coupler is a chunk of tire wire and a hose clamp so the throttle is stiff, the shift points too high, and UPS is making too much money off of me for the next day air.

I'm going to buy another cable in a couple or three days when I'm on a spending spree and just hang the thing on the garage wall as a reminder to be careful about that tire step. That way I'll never break the cable again unless I'm far from home.

Time for a non-carcinogenic smoke.

Nice! How is your compression now? You're still running the original rings and bearings aren't you?

Its running really well so far. Should be able to get fuel sync fine set today with a scanner.

Yes stock shortblock. Compression was 130-140 across the board before engine work began. Havent done one with new heads, the old valves were REALLY rough around the edges.

It sure does sound a lot better though

Today? Hmmmmmm lets see, I cussed it out, kicked the tires, hit the starter with a hammer, pulled that battery cables off, cussed it some more, put the battery cables back on, cussed it some more

No starter action what so ever, not in park or neutral, with the window down turning the key to the start position there's a click sound under the hood, swapped relays around with another relay (fuel pump(fuel pump still works with the starter relay)) such a pain in the butt truck man I'm telling you. I love her but if she keeps giving me problems I'm gonna kick her to the curb
Forgot to check to see if I had reverse lights when I was doing all my testing but I'll check that tomorrow. Temps are dropping to the lower 30s currently

She did just fine the other day on a hour long trip I just don't understand

Other vehicles don't sometimes need new starters?

The hot ticket: Snag a new starter, and if the old one shows you burnt contacts snag the famous Denso starter rebuild kit to make a spare of it. The kit's ten or fifteen bucks from any of dozens of sellers on eBay. If you've got thrashed bushings or smoked windings the kit won't fix 'em, but most of the time it's just burnt contacts.

It was so stupid though like it just was working perfectly, and its been working perfectly since November. I guess it was its time idk, once I see if I have reverse lights I'll go from there

Have you tried someone holding the key in the start position WHILE you tap on the starter? Could be a dead spot.
This one may be a stretch....are you sure the starter isnt still engaged in the flywheel? (Ive got an outboard evinrude that does that)

Bwally1996...
OK...I'll bite...what in the heck do your reverse/backup lights have to do with the starter? If you're hearing a click from the starter solenoid, that means your neutral switch is fine...e.g. not preventing the circuit from energizing as it would if the switch was defective, or the truck was in any gear except neutral or park (A/T). So, tell us...why have you said twice now... that you won't check the starter... "until I see if I have reverse lights..."?
