Oh. Thanks for the heads up. If sand paper is bad for it, I would imagine steel wool is as well? I was just going to use a real light grit sand paper.

Choirboy?

Eh. I don't know. It may be a little bit faded but I'm not that concerned. It only takes 2 minutes to take that piece off so I could do it some other day when its warmer anyway.

Went out a bit ago and checked the front brakes (they were starting to squeak). I was pretty sure they were fine, and all seems well. There's a ton of pad left..I cleaned them off some, maybe that will get rid of the squeak.

I've just started hearing a "clunk" when I begin to brake, as well as when I am at a complete stop and let off the brake. I checked the driveshaft and the U-joints seem in good shape..extremely little play in them (not to mention my truck was inspected about 1500 miles ago, so I would imagine they would be ok anyway)..Anybody have any ideas?

got a price on a posi front and rear with 4.10 gears. $1,850 w/bearings and seals for front and rear, $400 for install for both front and rear.

then got quoted on 4.10 gears alone, $250(R&P) $125(bearings and seals) for the rear, $225(R&P), $110(bearings and seals) around $700 for the install of front and rear.

Sound a little pricey, or about right?

I also thought about getting a front and rear axle from a off road edition ram, and getting new bearings and seals installed on them. What do you guys think?

sounds about right except you can get the actual gears a bit cheaper I believe..... the cost of install/bearing kits is right on and thats a fair labor charge for both.... dont forget to have add a new clutchpack for the rear factory lsd (posi) if you have it as its likely worn out or damaged like mine was...(that was almost an extra $300 for the earlier style ones like ours)

That sounds about right.

I've been thinking about grabbing the 4:10 axle out of the SS/T or Indy Rams that are in my junkyard. Then having the front axle re-built because I need new seals anyway.

Went down and bought the Grille emblem and the floor vent door lever at the dealer. It was only $28.
