I put new brake pads on the front and tried to get the rear drum off a few weeks back with no luck.. Took the truck to my buddies garage yesterday and they got them off.. I was pleased to find out I did not need new shoes, had plenty of meat on them. The dealer I got the truck from must have put now ones on before I bought it. I've only driven the truck 7000 since I bought it so I got lots of life left in the brakes.

Hooked my CB radio back up.
I disconnected it when I put the stock radio back in. It was wire in with the radio.
Installed a new power horn for the PA.

Started tearing into the engine yesterday and today with the intent of fixing what I thought was a blown plenum and a leaky/damaged head gasket. It turns out the rear bolts of the intake on the driver's side were loose, hence blowing oil out the rear upper part of the engine. The rear bolts of the valve covers were loose as well. I pulled the heads hoping whatever the intake gasket issue was would show itself plain as day, but no. All I could gather was a lot of carbon build-up on the pistons although there are signs of light rust in a few of the cylinders. There's so much grime in the engine bay from various leaks (my most recent being the power steering pump) that I think I'll just yank the engine and give it a once over while I degrease the engine bay. I was very impressed that the intake plenum gasket held very well. So well that it was difficult to peel off. All that was in there was a minor film of oil and carbon from the blown evaporation canister.

well, it doesn't look like you were burning any coolant..... and the crosshatch is still visible on the cylinder walls. Nice.

Yeah, just loads of carbon although the slight rust has me perplexed. I did not think that to be normal. I'm baffled where the exhaust gasses were escaping into the coolant. As the man who tested it said, "It's a very small leak".
