when you do get it you will thank everybody that suggested you get one, i did, but anyways don't be afraid to experiment with it, different tunes with different octanes, you'll find a combination that works for you, i'm still experimenting with mine to find the best mpg. just have to find a place that isn't charging $2.999 for premium. lol

I see the thread has seen some action so will add an update...

I have been running the stock program for the last couple months now because the 87 program would cause the trans to slip at the 1st to 2nd shift at WOT..

Was even worst with the 91 program and contribute this to the fact that the torque management is removed with both reprograms..

I reloaded the stock program and haven't had a slip since, I do plan on a trans shift kit and service in the future which I feel will solve the slip problem and will reload the performance programs then..

I just returned from a trip to Michigan (1650 miles total) and averaged 14.35 mpg the best tank was 16.73 mpg and worst was 12.97 mpg and the AC was on 99% of the time and towing a trailer some too..

I put new tires on before leaving and went to 265's from 245 and my speedo is now right on the money with my GPS now..

Have you checked your plenum? Do that FIRST. Look down the throttle body, and see if there is any oil in there, if there is, that needs to be fixed first.

If the plenum is ok, (or, you end up repairing it....) PM Hemifever on these forums, and he can hook you up with an SCT tuner for right around 275.00. I have not seen ANY complaints about his tunes. (while I have seen several for hypertech.....)

Welcome to DF!
thanks HeyYou.

getting the plenum checked today.

i'll contact Hemifever in the next couple of weeks.

I've got a 96 as well. Although, it's the 5.2. I've had no issues other than the 91 tune. I don't like it. It bogs much worse than the 87 tune. The 93 tune is not an issue. He sent me a new 91 and, I've got to upload that on the tuner today and get that going.

But, other than that, I've not experienced any shifting issues. I do understand the issue with fuel mileage. Due to it running quite a bit richer than OEM tune, it's not as efficient. At least, this is what I've noted since running STC.

well, 159xxx miles on the truck and all it needed were new plugs and wires. no plenum problems.

93 octane is in the tank and will be driving it this weekend.

Have you rebuilt your trans ( shift kit? )? Mine is still completely stock and think this will solve the slip and then will be very happy with the tuner..

Do you know if the towing tune requires high octane fuel or does it run with 87?

My tranny is OEM. I've never funked around with it.

As for the towing tune, he sent me one (at least I requested one) don't think he sent it though, it was an 87 octane tune. I am going to have to send him another email just to be sure myself.
