Seemed to be traveling a little fast for the conditions, and no hint of slowing down on first site of the semi... it took a while for it to register, and react.

Quote: Anyone ever installed an oil temp guage?
Half way there...

Have the gauge mounted and wired... just need the filter sandwich block the mount the sensor.
Will eventually have an oil cooler, but that's not needed yet.

I added the oil temp to fill a spot in my gauge pod, and give me a way to double check the (notoriously) less than accurate stock water temp gauge.

As a side note;
When I added LT Headers, one of the engine mount heat shields got damaged... I considered removing them when I take the mounts off to install the engine mount inserts to lessen the torque deflection of the engine.
The headers are further from the engine mounts than the stock exhaust manifold, so I figured less radiant heat on the mount.
Well, now that I have this oil temp sensor wired and hanging in the area, I bagged it (to keep the threads clean) and tie wrapped it to the top of the heat shield.
It so happens that on an 80°F ambient day, after an hours highway run, at most the area sees 122°F when you pull up and sit idling... hardly an earth shattering temp that is likely to damage the engine mount, so removing the heat shields wont be detrimental... there is likely more radiant heat from the side of the block.

Yeah I would too.

Lots of people in the comments are like the guy with the dashcam was going to fast, but I don't think he was. Dashcams always make things seem faster than they really were, and the other semi driver going up hill was just plain being DUMB, passing on snowy roads, past a plow. Down here at least it's illegal to pass a plow on conditions like that AFAIK.

Going to be looking at this old M135 6x6 on the weekend, he has two to look at this one and a bobbed one with no motor or xcase, but he has a IH motor tarnny and xcase that would fit in it. I have no spec's on the IH stuff until I see it this weekend.

Funny you should mention this Merc. I was just on Craigslist (couldn't sleep).

US Craigslist posting

I have for sale a "bobbed" 1971 M135A2 deuce and a half, for work, play, parades,
four wheeling, hunting, zombie killing, anything and everything! Its big! has a
6 cylinderturbo diesel (multi-fuel) engine, 5 speed Spicer transmission, Hi-Lo
transfer case, and 4x4.it has just at 25,000 miles and 1000hrs. on the clock,
with less than 200 on newer engine. One axle was removed along with the original
bed and the frame shortened 3ft, then added an M105 trailer bed and leaf springs
to make it a pick up truck. I swapped the original tires for a set of newer 14,5R20's
(43" tall) on military bead lock wheels, I have two spare tires and wheels that come
with it. This build has been done the right way, similar conversions on this truck
cost $2500+. Its very dependable, starts first time every time even in - temps and
has plenty of power.

for info call or text ford, dodge, Chevrolet, chevy, cummins,
powerstroke, duramax, cat, caterpillar, Detroit, peterbilt, kenworth, semi, international,
mack, 4x4, 6x6, Rockwell, dana, john deere, case, tractor Location:

Yeah, how about slowing down a little. Probably one of those idiots that texts and drives. I'd be embarrassed to show that to anyone.
