The only bulletproof things about John Deere's are the older 80s mowers that had the single cylinder Kawasaki engines. Those things will run forever, and literally. Parts are pricey though. The same goes for the Onan V-Twin used on the 318 tractors: I bought one once that had over 14,400 hours. Only reason the engine didn't run was it blew a headgasket. Sold it to someone, they took the engine out of the tractor, put a new gasket in it, and it still runs today. I've got a pic somewhere of the hour gauge. And no someone did not forget to turn the key off. The hour gauge ran off of the dizzy, so no turning of the engine, no hours.

The battery on my Craftsman is a little wonky but the mower itself is solid.
If I had a John Deere riding mower I'd never get my son off of it, he's 3 and LOVES tractors....
Wind gusts around 100MPH blew over 2 tractor trailers on I77 yesterday:

I have an old 77 216 that I use to mow at the moment..... after chasing down it's assorted issues, it is a really reliable tractor. Does what I need it to, when I need it too. Trouble is, 46" deck is just too small for mowing my three and some change acres. Currently working on getting my Gravely GMT 9000 going. With its 72" mower deck..... Just waiting on parts to show up, so I can put it back together.
I don't know if they still do it but when I had a Standard oil gas credit card they always asked what the odometer reading was when I would get gas even if I did not fill the tank. When I would get my bill there was a spot that told me what they calculated my mileage to be.
The only real problem with that was I did not buy my fuel at Standard gas stations all the time and sometimes I used cash when I got the gas at a Standard station. Sometimes they figured I had gotten over 400 mpg on the bill.
