3.07's and a 5 speed is a sweet combo in these trucks. Lots of guys do that swap, either swapping in the getrag or the axles. Getrags are great transmissions if you don't lug them. Also need to overfill them 1 qt. with 5w40 full synthetic. I vote go for it redneck. Join the madness...

 

we shall see. its either spend 3500 on a motor, and parts, or talk the woman into letting me get this truck...

edit: i just realized its a single cab.... damn. i need an extended cab, that sucks!

 

But just how much truck/motor does $3500 get you compared to the 1st Gen Diesel?

Edit:

Buy it, use your Ram when you need the extended cab, and use the Diesel for everything else.

3500~ gets me a top end built 360 gaining 100+ hp, and who knows how much torque. built for low end torque.

or spend the money on the diesel, and have to spend even more money on body work, as it needs rockers and such.

 

never had experience with a getrag but that's what I've been told so long as they are overfilled. IDK if you have to use GL4 in them like you do in the NV4500 so I thought I would just bring that up, cuz if u use GL5 in a NV4500 it eats the syncros out of it. Just thinking...
