2001 Dashboard Cracks
I have an '03 Dodge Ram that just rolled over 100,000 miles and my dashboard has several cracks all in it. Wish we could get this problem fixed through Dodge. They probably know there is a problem with the dash but won't fess up to it.
Like everyone else, I too have dash cracks, long cracks from vent to above the steering wheel and on top of the passenger air bag. Indeed, I thought I was the only one too. I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 quadcab and it started at the vent on top where everyone else's has started. Thank GOD it hasn't broken off into little pieces or created huge holes on top yet. I'm also concerned about having an accident and the sharp pieces fly and hit me or my two year old daughter in her carseat in the back and hurt us pretty bad.
I'm not giving Dodge a bad name, IDO like Dodge. My husband just bought a Charger R/T and I want to trade in my truck for a Nitro. The problem is within those years listed above. Yes I've had to replace the trans. it was a good thing it was still under warrenty at the time. Also I've had to replace the instrument cluster recently, all my gauges went down to 0 like the truck wasn't started and the check engine light would come on but it would still drive down the road just fine but I never knew how fastI was going. Oh and not to forget all the brakes I've gone through......I've never been hard on my brakes but I have to change them at least twice a year, I was told it was that year of truck but who knows.I noticed a lot of these people on this forum are from Texas, I'm from Texas and bought my dodge there.
Something should be done but it looks like nothing is so I'm guessing I've got to spend a lot of money to get a new one or throw a cover over it. Not sure what the best way is since I plan on trading it off very soon but if I leave it as is then I'll get less trade-in value for it. Either way I don't like that this is happening to everyone, including me,it is not fair that Dodge hasn't recalled this since SO many people have this problem. To those of you who fall in these year models and DON'T have cracks........ just wait, it'll happen.
Any suggestions?? I'm going to call the 1800 number others have posted and we will see what happens.

I have a 2000 Dodge Ram 2500. The dash started with a little crack..for no reason...and it now has a huge hole in it, from collapsing in on itself. The dash is defective..period. Dodge doesn't care..they will only care when they have been sued!
Ever since I replaced the heater core in my 1997 this past spring, my dash has started cracking. I might pull it out and either find someone who can reproduce it using fiberglass or else I will use a plastic welder to reinforce the cracks from the underside.
My dash developed a crack over a year ago and about a week ago I noticed a lot of cracks and one piece fell in the dash. I found this post and many others about the same problem when searching for a dash cover.
I did file a complaint with Safecar.gov and called Dodge's 800 number. I talked to a person of middle eastern decent for about 10 minutes while he took down my information. He seemed well aware of the problem and was very nice. He transferred me to a supervisor, during the transfer I was on hold for at least 10 minutes with no more music on-hold like I had previously when I was on hold. Maybe they thought I would hang up?
Anyway I finally got through to a supervisor named Kelly who was a very pleasant young lady that asked a few more questions. She gave me a reference number and asked me to take my truck to a local dealer to have them look at it and diagnose the problem. Gee that would be tough, your dash is falling in!
I called two of the local dealers just to feel them out and see what they would do, both offered to look at it free of charge, like they said how tough is it to figure out. Now both of them said they have never heard of this problem, I find that hard to believe but who am I to judge.
I'm going to the dealer tomorrow, after seeing the dealer I am supposed to call Dodge back, we will see what they will do for me. I am the original owner of the truck, it is a 2000 Ram 1500 4X4 with 105,000 miles on it now. the first cracks developed about 1.5 to 2 years ago.
This is my second Ram and before that I owned a Jeep and my wife has had 2 Caravans and now a Town & Country, so we are loyal Chrysler owners if that makes any difference?
I will post back after I find out what they are going to do about it.
Also to the posters who say get over it, it's not a big deal, it is a big deal that is a manufacturing defect and should be corrected with no charge to the owners. If it was a warranty problem then there should be a deductible, if it is a defect to thousands of vehicles it should be repaired free of charge.

Nothing really to add except that I just bought an '01 and I'm in the cracked dash club...actually have a big hole in the dash.
