My nephew does it for a living....... Depending on how far you are from the scrap yard, determines how worth while it is. Besides, whats the alternative? Paying someone to take them away?
I suppose, if you set them out by the street, with a sign that said "FREE", they wouldn't sit there long in any event......
Probably get a few bucks for them. Might be enough to pay for the gas to drive them there.

To make it worthwhile you'll need a trailer and some knowledge of scrap metal (aluminum, cast iron, steel, brass, etc). It also depends on where you live. Those closer to a waterway yield higher prices than those, such as myself, who are landlocked and the scrap metal has to be hauled from the yard via rail. Call your local scrap dealer and ask what the going ton rate is for scrap steel. If done properly, you can make some good money after accounting for fuel, but you have to work smart and not hard.

The only thing that is really worth taking to the scrap yard is copper, unless you have a LOT of the other metals.
You should get enough $ to cover the gas and you'll get that crap out of your yard so go for it. Just don't let them get that magnet near your truck, I'm pretty sure that there are signs (small ones) that say that they aren't liable for damage.

I hear that when it was high a few yrs back I was pulling in 500 a month. Good money only thing I paid for was gas for the van (this was before i had the truck) and food for the house since i was making so much lol. Not anymore there aint **** around unless its steel and I just don't want to mess with it.
