Yes, and I'd love to get my grubby hands on one!

I cannot confirm that Cummins is going to build a V6 or V8 diesel for the 1500s, thats just the talk thats been going on since around 2008 when the 4th gens were just starting to come out from the curtain.
This motor could work:

Im sure you guys have seen or heard but cummins does make a v6 and v8 but so far they are only in commercial use i believe.

And yes that isb (even though its made in china, but what isnt now) would be awesome in a small/light duty truck. That is where the 80's had it right small truck with diesels. like the Isuzu or s10 and if i am not mistaking Mitsubishi had one too or basically all small trucks in Europe from that time to today

If dodge did come out with a small diesel i think it will sell good because people are ready for a small/lightduty truck with a diesel. For example if you look at any car/truck forum you will find people who are swapping diesels into there cars or truck, some for a way to get around smog and other for MPG and power. Also look at how many people are putting a 4bt into a ranger, dakota, or tacoma. Thats just the 4bt there are other small diesels out there. Also look at how many people want a heilux or even the small vw rabbit trucks.

As for performance i think it would be nice to see another fast production truck not with a v10 necessarily but something that is fast and can handle, maybe a track ready truck with a 340 in it. that will be cool bring back a classic motor that alot of people love

as much as i would love to see diesel in smaller applications i just dont see it happening anytime soon.

The public is to stupid in America. People are stuck on the old diesels of the 80's and they saee that diesle is about 50cents higher at the pump. People dont understand that its better, cleaner power and more effiecient. if there was more diesel engines the price of the fuel would go up some more until production caught up and it would come back to around level of unleaded. it would take time, but people here in the states are to stupid to understand what is happening right in front of them much less under the hoods.

Well..... there are a lot of factors that play into that though. More than just apparent price at the pump. The fact that diesel options add 3 to 7 THOUSAND dollars to the price of a vehicle being right up there on the list..... That kind of scratch will buy a LOT of gas, and it will take quite some time before the savings in fuel, pays for the oil burner..... Fair number of folks don't keep their cars that long.

That, and passenger car diesels don't really have a good rep. Yeah... That's a holdover from the 80s, and I blame Oldsmobile for that one. Who ever though it was a good idea to try and make an oil burner out of a gas engine was smokin' too much of something.........

This is so true on so many levels, the USA is not ready for small diesels but thanks to VW's quiet diesels people are coming around i think little by little but they are coming.

I dont really think it is the Oldsmobile diesel that ruined it, i think Mercedes diesels had more to do with it. The GM diesels at the time were so much quieter the those things, the merc diesels sounds like alot of people shaking spray paint at one time.
Thanks to Top Gear i think alot of people are getting more educated on how bad *** cars are in europe and how diesel will make its way here it just might take a while befor we see them in american small trucks or cars again.

Its one of the worst American car failures since the Edsel and the Pontiac Aztec.

yup Brand loyality is stupid, This comming from a ex di hard Ford owner who made a large leap of faith into a Dodge!!!

4.6 5.4 5.4.3v the V10. 6.0 version 1 and version 2 are no where as good as the old 7.3 power stroke, 5.0 5.8 7.3 (gas) engines I grew up with, nothing wrong with being loyal to a paid for truck.

I was thinking brand loyal as in buying a new Dodge every 2 years since 1972...Thats stupid. You're right, there is nothing wrong with being loyal to a paid off truck.

This "talk" has been around for years. I'll believe it when I see it.
